Un pequeño homenaje al gran Rafael Cadenas

En esta ocasión estoy un poco emocionado porque quiero mostrarles una adaptación musical que he hecho para un poema del poeta venezolano (larense) Rafael Cadenas. Quizás algunos no lo saben pero este poeta es uno de los mas importantes a nivel latinoamericano, en este mismo año gano el Premio de Literatura en Lengua Castellana Miguel de Cervantes, cabe destacar que es el único venezolano en recibir este premio. Soy un amante de la poesía pero específicamente de la poesía cruda, melancólica y muchas veces brutal. Rafael Cadenas no es precisamente poesía "bonita" es poesía muy real y contundente. Ya había conocido su poema mas importante "La Derrota" en bachillerato y quede impactado. Hoy por hoy, le quiero hacer un pequeño homenaje a su poema "Rara Materia" haciendo un arreglo musical que me pareció adecuado. Espero que les guste y si de pronto no les gusta la poesía al menos la puedan apreciar mediante esta canción.

On this occasion I am a little excited because I want to show you a musical adaptation I have made for a poem by the Venezuelan poet Rafael Cadenas. Maybe some of you don't know it but this poet is one of the most important poets in Latin America, in this same year he won the Miguel de Cervantes Prize for Literature in Spanish Language, it is worth mentioning that he is the only Venezuelan to receive this award. I am a lover of poetry but specifically of raw, melancholic and often brutal poetry. Rafael Cadenas is not exactly "pretty" poetry, but very real and forceful poetry. I had already known his most important poem "La Derrota" in high school and I was impressed. Today, I want to make a small tribute to his poem "Rara Materia" by making a musical arrangement that I thought was appropriate. I hope you like it and if you don't like poetry at least you can appreciate it through this song.

La idea de musicalizar un poesía no es nueva para mi. Hay un poemario que conservo, realmente es una antología de poesía venezolana que un amigo me regaló hace muchos años atrás en el bachillerato, y ahí había poesía de Andrés Eloy Blanco, Andrés Mata, Alberto Arbelo Larriva, Miguel Otero Silva y muchos mas. Por alguna razón siempre me ponía a intentar colocar esos versos sobre una base musical, el resultado a veces era mediocre, en otros casos sonaba interesante. Así pues, nació ese interés en darle vida musical a ciertos poemas. Y como hace poco realicé junto a mi proyecto musical "Proyecto Bagre" un homenaje musical a este poeta Rafael Cadenas, me pareció buena idea compartir con uds esta primicia.

The idea of setting poetry to music is not new to me. There is a poetry book that I keep, actually it is an anthology of Venezuelan poetry that a friend gave me many years ago in high school, and there was poetry by Andrés Eloy Blanco, Andrés Mata, Alberto Arbelo Larriva, Miguel Otero Silva and many more. For some reason I always tried to place those verses on a musical base, the result was sometimes mediocre, in other cases it sounded interesting. So, this interest in giving musical life to certain poems was born. And since I recently made with my musical project "Proyecto Bagre" a musical tribute to this poet Rafael Cadenas, I thought it was a good idea to share with you this scoop.

Rara materia que no cedes razones.

si llamas al pensamiento es para dejarlo secar.
Cede alguna vez: regresa a tu reino oscuro.

No es justo tu veneno restregando sed
a los sueños, incertidumbre al corazón,
crecimiento a las secretas mutilaciones.
Cede alguna vez: demasiado conoces.

Ciega, pestilente, enancada en la noria
de la ilusión, aléjate del humano olor
que destila nuestra debilidad:
materia, rara materia.
