This weathervane is mesmerizing to watch. The way the wind blows on the mic and then registers in the movement of the installation is a beautiful accidental synchronicity. I enjoy art that is meant to turn on the senses or alter your perception in some way. There are many kinds of art, as we all know. Art, for example, that is meant to activate our survival neural centers. There is art for emotions. Art for the intellect. Some art is meant to enhance social (religious, political, judicial, etc) cohesion. The kind of art that speaks to me is that kind of art that you come across one day when you’re just walking about minding your own business, when all of a sudden bam! You’re confronted with a mind-bending reality that takes you down from rabbit hole to rabbit hole, spinning, sliding, turning, around and around, wheeeee! your eyes looking this way and that guided by top-down bottom-up processes that coil in swift synaptic interactions, zoom! what's going on? how did I get here? and you begin to question your assumptions about everything you've know and want it to stop, but you can't stop, so you go! go! go! falling down the whole of time until you stand there mesmerized like a squirrel looking for lights to chew on the infinite wisdom of existence.
That's my kind of art.
