Launching my first short video here in 3Speak TV mobile app.
Shown in the video is a scolid wasp pollinating the flowers of a caper berry plant (Capparis zeylanica). I found this along the Maragayap River, here in Bacnotan, La Union, Philippines while we are having a rest with my pet dog under the shade of a rain tree after we are done with our morning walk. in Sri Lanka, East Indies, Philippines, Thailand and Burma. Length is about 18mm. Head and antennae are light red, entire body black, wings dark with purplish blue reflections. Males are more slender and elongated than females, with longer antennae. This wasp is beneficial to farming because their larvae act as important biocontrol agents, which feed on beetle larvae in the ground, including the serious pest, the Japanese beetle. Adult wasps may be minor pollinators of many wildflowers.
