Big shoutout to @clove71 and the entire curation team, admins and moderators of @splinterlands community for running this platform and making it a home for lovers of splinterlands. You're all doing well!!!
In selecting the Monsters we are to use for our battles, we Consider the rule set, Mana and Splinter specified for the game. After this, we also consider the mana and ability of the selected Monster.
Considering the ability of a Monster is very essential as it can guarantee heavy damage on our opponent's team and strength or healing on your Monsters.
In this post we are going to consider two important abilities: Opportunist and Sneak abilities.
In this tutorial, I will explain what the Opportunist and Sneak abilities are, I'll show you some Monsters that possess these abilities. Some of which are available among the Playable cards gotten through the Spell book you bought. Lest I forget, this video is directed to all Newbies and beginners. However, I'll be so glad to get reviews and comments from Great Splinterlands players.

Just like the name, OPPORTUNIST from OPPORTUNITY, the Opportunist Monsters look for the perfect OPPORTUNITY to attack. In the game, they attack the opponent's Monsters with the lowest health, so that with their hit they will deliver a critical damage to the Monster with low health.
Monsters with the Opportunity ability may attack from any position and will target the enemy Monster with the lowest health.
Some of the Monsters with the Opportunist ability include:
Monster Name | Image | Level 1 Stats |
---|---|---|
Serpentine Spy | Splinter - Fire; Mana - 3; Melee attack effect - 2; Speed - 2; health - 1 | |
Deeplurker | Splinter - Water; Mana - 3; Melee attack effect - 2; Health - 6 |
Just like the name, SNEAK, the Sneak Monsters go through the backdoor rather than the front gate. In other words, they attack the Monsters at the backdoor rather than the first position Monster.
Targets the last Monster on the enemy Team instead of the first Monster.
Some of the Monsters with the Sneak ability include:
Name | Image | Level 1 Stats |
---|---|---|
Tenyii Striker | Splinter - Fire; Mana - 5; Melee Attack Effect - 2; Speed - 2; Health - 6 | |
Pelacor Bandit | Mana - 3; Melee Attack Effect - 1; Speed - 3; Health - 2 |
To show you an example of how this happens, I'll share a Battle I played and these Monsters were used. The battle was for one of the Splinterlands Battle Challenge.
Click here to watch the battle
The battle was against triplecoin who chose Summoner and Monsters from the Primal Force of Fire. On the other hand, I selected my team from the Primal Force of Water.
Two Opportunist Monsters were used and 1 sneak Monster was also used in this battle.
In this video preview we see the opportunist Monsters of both teams attacking the weaker Monsters (in health) of both teams not minding their positions.
In this video preview we see my opponent's Sneak Monster, attacking my last monster instead of the first. That's is what Sneak does 😅
