Here's a Bass cover of 'No' by Subhumans.

I learned this song, and a few other Subhumans songs years ago on Bass, but over the years of not playing them I had forgot how they went, I remember - back then - this one took me so long to learn, as it is a fairly tricky one. The initial rythm and structure of it is fine, but after the first chorus and coming back into the main riff I would mess up and fall out of time. Learning it this time, however, was pretty handy and I think I managed to get it down. I did take me a few times to record it and get a version that was decent, but that's all part of it. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and I think I'll go back and learn a few more of their songs. I just learned this one for the fun of it, as I don't think we'll be playing it as the cover band, but sometimes it's good going and learning songs for no reason, other than you like it. Each one I learn does help to improve myself, so it's all good in my opinion.

It's one of my favourite songs by then, and while it is short and sweet, the lyrics are fairly pungent as all of their songs tend to be.

    Seeing Them In Blackpool

I actually got to chat with Dick Fish again, I don't know if anyone will remember, but back in December my band played along side them and others, for Paranoid Visions 40th anniversary. At the time, Kaleb was still cooking, and I gave Dick Fish a scan photo and asked if he would write a little something for him, as he did for my dad when I was just a baby.

Years ago, my dad was at one of their gigs when I was just 14 months old, and sure enough he wrote a little something for him to give to me, and it was fun being able to carry on that little tradition. At the time we explained the whole story, and told him about this weird connection he has with our family. At the festival I showed him a picture of Kaleb now, and he was delighted and even said, "Wait, so you're the guy whose dad got me to write a note for, and then you got me to write your son a note too?" and I nodded and said, "Yeah, that's right; three generations of stalkers." We had a laugh, and I left it at that, because I didn't want to wreck his head, as he was going up a few hours later with his other band.

    Suggestions

As I say with each of these videos I release, if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations for songs to learn, let me know, as I'm happy to learn other things, and it's good to have some leave a suggestion for a song they really like... so I can butched it on the bass.
