Greetings friends and fellow musicians of @hive and @music, all music lovers!
I want to share with all of you a work that I have done with my recorders and that I accompany only with a cuatro. It is a song by a beloved composer of traditional Venezuelan music, the remembered Simón Díaz and as we know him here in Venezuela, Uncle Simón.

Simón Díaz

Simón Díaz (1928-2014), dedicated his entire career to composing and disseminating traditional Venezuelan music and in particular, the music of the Venezuelan plains, devoting much of his efforts to the study, research and composition of milking songs and cattle herding, which, in turn, derive in compositions of tonadas and passages; songs such as "La Tonada del Cabrestero", "La Tonada de Luna Llena", "Sabana", "Mi querencia", "Clavelito colorado", "Arbolito sabanero", "Garcita", "Tonada del tormento" stand out. In this diversity of rhythms we can listen to passages such as "El becerrito", "Pasaje del olvido", "El alcaraván", "Mercedes", without leaving out a song that is perhaps the most significant or emblematic of all his work and career "Caballo Viejo".
Among the awards obtained by this great master are: the "Orden del Libertador en su Gran Cordón", this is the highest decoration granted by the Venezuelan State. However, in 2012 he was awarded the National Culture Prize, mention in Music.
On the other hand, he was awarded the Latin Grammy for Lifetime Achievement in 2008.

#The Tonada

As for the tonada, it is necessary to say that, in Venezuela, it is presented as work songs: milking, tillage, herding, hunting, fishing, threshing, corn milling, harvesting, but also as a song of rest of the man after the work in the field. In other words, the tunes are part of the peasant's work ritual, which keep alive the spirit of coexistence of the daily chores of the men of the field. In this sense, the tonadas are utilitarian songs, characterized by melodies with a clear harmony and long notes; they also incorporate shouts, whistles, and other effects that are considered necessary or related to the work that is being practiced.

The interpretation that I perform, in my presentation, is of the tune Sabana by Simón Díaz, which refers, more than to the daily work, to the place where it takes place. The song describes, in a poetic way, the geography that can be observed, the smells, the flora and fauna, and also expresses his love for the plains and for all the memories that, if you will, the "llanero" builds in these lands.

Quiero compartir con todos ustedes un trabajo que he realizado con mis flautas dulces y que acompaño tan solo con un cuatro. Se trata de una canción de un querido compositor de música tradicional venezolana, el recordado Simón Díaz y como lo conocemos aquí en Venezuela, el tío Simón.

Simón Díaz (1928-2014), dedicó toda su carrera a componer y divulgar la música tradicional venezolana y en especial, la música de los llanos venezolanos, dedicando gran parte de sus esfuerzos al estudio, investigación y composición de cantos de ordeño y arreo de ganado, lo que, a su vez, derivan en composiciones de tonadas y pasajes; destacándose canciones como “La Tonada del Cabrestero”, “La Tonada de Luna Llena”, “Sabana”, “Mi querencia”, “Clavelito colorado”, “Arbolito sabanero”, “Garcita”, “Tonada del tormento”. En esta diversidad de ritmos podemos escuchar pasajes como “El becerrito”, “Pasaje del olvido”, “El alcaraván”, “Mercedes”, sin dejar por fuera un tema que, es quizás, el más significativo o emblemático de toda su obra y carrera “Caballo Viejo”.

Entre los galardones obtenidos por este gran maestro se encuentran: la “Orden del Libertador en su Gran Cordón”, esta es la más alta condecoración que otorga el Estado venezolano. Sin embargo, le fue otorgado en el año 2012 el Premio Nacional de Cultura mención Música.
Por otro lado, le fue concedido el Grammy Latino a la Trayectoria En el año 2008.

#La Tonada

En cuanto a la tonada, es necesario decir que, en Venezuela, se presenta como cantos de trabajo: ordeño, labranza, arreo, caza, pesca, trilla, molienda de maíz, cosecha, pero también como canto de descanso del hombre después de la faena en el campo. En otras palabras, las tonadas son parte del rito laboral del campesino, que, mantienen vivo ese espíritu de convivencia de las faenas diarias de los hombres del campo. En este sentido, las tonadas son cantos utilitarios, caracterizados por melodías con una clara armonía y por sus largas notas; además incorporan gritos, silbidos, y otros efectos que se consideren necesarios o afines a la labor que se esté practicando.

La interpretación que realizo, en mi presentación, es de la tonada Sabana de Simón Díaz, la cual se refiere, más que a la faena diaria, al lugar donde esta ocurre. En la canción se describe, de manera poética, la geografía que se puede observar, los olores, la flora y la fauna, además, expresa su amor por los llanos y por todos los recuerdos que, si se quiere, construye el llanero en estas tierras.
