Hive Open Mic Week 132 / Scars to your beautiful (cover) By @jessicaossom

I love the theme for this week's Hive open mic contest. "Woman Life Freedom." This theme was chosen by the community's recent Spotlight Artist: @discouragedones. I decided to do a song by Alessia Cara titled "Scars to your beautiful".

I have been familiar with the rhythm of this song before. I never really cared to learn the lyrics. However, I knew that it was a song with deep meaning.

There was a day my elder sister decided to gold-tint her hair. Tinting of hair was what was trending at that time and looked gorgeous on a lot of ladies. Also, I encouraged my sister to go ahead with it because I thought it would enhance the look of her low-cut hair.

I discovered the song "Scars to your beautiful" that day.

As soon as I finished dying her hair gold, I wanted to share what we did on Whatsapp. While editing, I picked a random song from my playlist and it was "Scars to your beautiful".

After I was done editing and adding music to the clip, I showed it to my sister with a smile on my face. This is because I thought that I had done a great job.

My sister was quick to catch these words from the lyrics "You should know you're beautiful just the way you are. You don't have to change a thing the world could change it, heart'.

It was when she pointed it out that I realized that the music was talking about a woman being beautiful the way she is. She doesn't need to change anything in a bid to look better.

This clip shows my sister changing her hair from black to gold. For a second, it felt awkward. However, I was already done editing and I love the song. So, I decided to just leave it the way it was, not minding the lyrics hehe.😄

I started rehearsing the song on Wednesday and recorded myself performing it. I was planning to post it already but the perfectionist in me wanted something better. I put on some makeup on Thursday evening, deleted the old recordings, and re-recorded the song.

I had made up my mind to just publish it like that even though it wasn't okay. This is because I was looking at my PC's screen for the lyrics while singing. I used my editing app to edit the video. I was preparing to publish it this morning but changed my mind when I realized that I could sing the song offhand.

During this morning's recording, I didn't look at any lyrics. I felt confident knowing that I could score the lyrics within 3 days and could sing offhand. I did my final editing and I am glad that I have finally published the video hehe.
