HIVE OPEN MIC #170 (ENG/ESP): Theme: CACAO - "Sweet Like Chocolate" by Shanks & Bigfoot! (cover)

Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from the Garden Route (about 5-7 hours drive from Cape Town) in South Africa!

Welcome to Week 170 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for this week is Cacao, the stuff that makes cocoa powder, which is then eventually made into chocolate as far as I understand! This is quite a tricky theme!

The very first CD I ever bought was Big Hits 99 Volume 2 (Am I telling you exactly how old I am with that? Were any of you not even born in 1999? Hahaha!). I found it again a few months ago, and we played it on a road trip, so that my wife Julia and I could go back in time to when we were young teenagers again – music can do that!

The CD starts out with some really good bands that we still remember today like The Cardigans, Placebo, Blur, Faithless and Skunk Anansie. It then moves over into pop music by various artists that I have never heard of since… were most of these people “one hit wonders” at the time? Eventually, after a song by Armand van Helden (a DJ who did have at least several hits back then), comes two pop songs I do still like to this day… “Tonite” by Supercar and the song I’m going to tackle today, “Sweet like Chocolate” by Shanks & Bigfoot. Do any of you HIVERs out there older than about 36 years old remember this?

¡Hola a todos en Hive y especialmente a la comunidad Hive Open Mic! Mi nombre es Jasper y te escribo (y canto) desde Garden Route (a unas 5-7 horas en coche desde Ciudad del Cabo) en Sudáfrica.

Bienvenidos a la Semana 170 del Hive Open Mic Challenge. El tema de esta semana es el cacao, lo que hace que el cacao en polvo se convierta en chocolate, según tengo entendido. ¡Este es un tema bastante complicado!

El primer CD que compré fue Big Hits 99 Volume 2 (¿Les estoy diciendo exactamente cuántos años tengo con eso? ¿Alguno de ustedes ni siquiera nació en 1999? ¡Jajaja!). Lo encontré de nuevo hace unos meses, y lo tocamos en un viaje por carretera, para que mi esposa Julia y yo pudiéramos retroceder en el tiempo cuando éramos adolescentes nuevamente: ¡la música puede hacer eso!

El CD comienza con algunas bandas realmente buenas que todavía recordamos hoy como The Cardigans, Placebo, Blur, Faithless y Skunk Anansie. Luego pasa a la música pop de varios artistas de los que nunca he oído hablar desde... ¿La mayoría de estas personas eran "maravillas de un solo éxito" en ese momento?
