Hello brothers and sisters, We are IndonesiaBersatu, a Punk Rock band from the city of Medan, Indonesia. Today we participated again in threes. So, the weekly event #openmic has now entered its 164th week with the theme Hopeful. This theme was chosen by our best friend and this week's highlight artist @jmis101. This is an interesting theme, so we brought you a cover song entitled Darah Juang, In English, this means Blood of Struggle. This song is a song often sung by student demonstrators during street demonstrations. The song was written by John Tobing in 1998 when there was a terrible economic crisis in Indonesia. Students and poor people demonstrated on the road to the DPR building while singing this song.

With this week's Hopeful theme, the song we present is not only about a struggle but also about hope for a better political situation. In Indonesian history, from 1967 to 1998 it was called the New Order period, our country was led by dictatorial and corrupt rulers. At the peak of the leadership of the New Order government in 1997 to 1998 there was a monetary crisis which caused all basic prices to soar. Meanwhile, many do not work and workers also receive salaries that are not in balance with the cost of necessities of life. Crime rates are getting higher. Therefore, all students in Indonesia protested against the government and demanded that the president step down from office. During the protests, the security forces and the military intervened in dealing with student demonstrations. Many victims died as a result of this.

This song provides the spirit of struggle for the demonstrators to continue to advance against the actions of dictatorship and corruption by the government to realize the people's hopes so that they can get their rights as people. The increase in the price of fuel oil increased the price of basic commodities which made it even more difficult for the people. This song has become fuel for the enthusiasm of the demonstrators to this day. Every time there is an action, this song must be sung by them. Even though the New Order era has changed to the reform era, this country is not doing well. We still see many social inequalities and we do not feel justice in this country. We continue to shout out resistance through music. One of them is this Blood Jug song. The song of struggle to realize the people's hopes. Below, are the song lyrics and their translations;
