    Welcome to another Hive Learners Creative Sunday Initiative with George Dee. Every Sunday is about putting our creativity out there for everyone and it's something I am always looking forward to.

    The festive season is here already and I felt like it would be okay to concentrate on food and snacks that would make the season awesome and memorable.


    So I had some overripe plantains at home and decided to make something out of it, this can be called Plantain puff. This name brings the popular Nigerian snack Puff Puff to the mind and it's almost the same thing but one recipe changed everything.

    As the name implies, Plantain puff is made from plantain and it's one of the tasty snacks out there. It can be served as a small chop and I love it when I can lay my hands on a chill drink to accompany it. I mentioned earlier about concentrating on food we can enjoy this festive season and I am sure your friends and family will love Plantain Puff.

    This snack is tasty, yummy and nutritious, I am sure everyone knows that plantains are packed with lots of nutrients.

    What do we need to prepare Plantain Puff?

    To enjoy this, you don't need to break the bank. The recipes aren't much and are very affordable so to enjoy this, it doesn't cost much.

    • Ripe plantain
    • Flour
    • Yeast
    • Sugar
    • Salt
    • Pepper & Onions
    • Groundnut oil

    Let's move to the preparation.

    Before going on, let's ensure that we cook in a clean environment. Our utensils and recipes must be clean as well.

    • I started with peeling the plantains and blended them afterwards, it has to be thick so don't add water.

    • I blended the pepper with a hand blender and also sliced the pepper.


    After doing the things mentioned above, I went on to mix the recipe. You don't need to be a professional before you can make Plantain Puff

    • I turned the flour into the blended plantain, it's just a cup and the blended plantain paste was the right quantity I needed. I mixed it with my hand but you can do it with a mixer if you have one.

    • I added all other recipes when the first mixture came out well, I mixed again until all the recipes blended in well.

    • I covered the mixture and put it in the sun because it needs heat to rise. The mixture has to rise twice its size before we can move to the next stage.

    • I left the mixture in the sun for about 30 minutes before I moved to the frying stage.


    • I heated the oil first and started cutting the mixture bit by bit into the hot oil, it shouldn't be too hot to prevent the mixture from getting burnt immediately after putting it in the oil.

    • While it was frying, I moved the plantain puff about in the hot so that all the parts would be properly fried and immediately the colour turned brown, I removed them from the hot oil and put them in a basket to drain the oil.

    • The process went on like that until I finished frying all the mixture and it was really delicious.

    Plantain is a natural sweet food and just imagine what it would taste like with all the recipes. I shared it with my neighbours to have a taste and they all loved it. You should try it out this festive and be sure to share because everyone who tastes it will definitely ask for more.
