We eat tonight!

It's been way too long since I spent some time blowing enemies to tiny bits with my gnasher, but finally, that hiatus is ending. At last, I am getting my very first experience of playing Gears 5. I briefly played Gears 4 when it launched, but haven't had my own Xbox since 2013. What is funny is that I still don't have an Xbox, but I'm still able to play this game on my M1 iMac thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

I nearly forgot just how much I loved Gears. This is my favorite cover-based third-person shooter series of all time. Bouncing off walls and landing the perfect shotgun blast to the dome seriously never gets old. My skills with this game are going to come back to me quickly, I've played hundreds, if not thousands of hours of Gears games over the course of my life. I can still remember when the original Gears of War came out and I started grinding for that Seriously... achievement for 10,000 kills on Xbox 360.

Although I am loving Xbox Cloud Gaming, I encountered my first connection issue while using this streaming service. Luckily it was nothing major and didn't happen while I was in a game. The game paused for about 10 seconds and then loaded back up just fine. Not sure exactly what happened. My connection is solid, so I guess it was just an odd error. It hasn't happened again since. Beware that Xbox Cloud Gaming is still in Beta, so this service is far from perfect.

In this game, I play a match of Control on a map called Forge. I managed to get placed on the Swarm team, formerly the Locust if you're an OG like me. I had a slow start but got to blasting away with my Gnasher eventually. It just feels so good when you nail the perfect shot in Gears. Not many games can reach this level of intensity.
