    About :

This is my recording of William Goodwin's Trumpet Voluntary on the 23 stop Hereford Cathedral Hauptwerk instrument. Trumpet Voluntaries were very popular around Goodwin's time (just think of the famous Purcell Trumpet Tune or the Stanley Trumpet Tune). They were often presented first with a slow movement (Adagio) then followed by an Allegro movement featuring the Trumpet. Echo effects were also prevalent in these compositions—you will hear a motif on the Trumpet and then it will be echoed by the organ registration alone.

There are quite a number of these English voluntaries floating around on IMSLP. Most are not heard too often due to the popularisation of well-known tunes like The Prince of Denmark's March by Jeremiah Clarke (this was actually played my wedding with @leysa!). I couldn't find this Goodwin score on IMSLP but if you're interested, it's in book 2 of the ever-popular CH Trevor Old English Organ Music for Manuals.
