Greetings Gamers
In the video above I am playing through The Black Hood Campaign which is the second campaign in Knights Of Braveland.
This game is a charming little side-scrolling brawler with some RPG mechanics and some influence from tabletop games such as Dungeons and Dragons.
The first mission in this campaign is to rescue a peasant from some wolves.
In this play through I am playing the Asian-themed character who starts out each campaign with a sharpened staff as his main weapon. For this first stage, we have to fight a few waves of attacking wolves and keep them away from the peasant.
Once all the wolves are dead we are rewarded with some treasure.
Loot drops from the chest are random so each playthrough is going to be different. This time round we get a rapier that does less damage but has a faster attack speed.
We can choose which area of the campaign to move to next , moving uses up rations. This time round I go towards the mystery path.
Its a bandit attack!
Pay them all my gold or fight them? Seems an easy choice , they ain't getting my gold!
This looks like a job for our newly acquired Old Rapier!
The combat here is simple but satisfying, our attacks connect with nicely timed sound effects.
We can switch between melee basic and power attacks or ranged weapons to keep things interesting. For now, our ranged weapon is a bag of stones.
With the bandits defeated we get some coin and a ranged weapon upgrade.
These Iron balls are a slight improvement over the stones we were throwing before.
Now that we have passed the bandit camp we are free to travel through the portal to the next stage of the campaign but before we do that I'm curious about what is at this skull location.
More evil bandits and this time there's no option to reason with them.
So let's smash up their camp, yeah!...breaking items is super satisfying...
Slay the bandits...
Take their loot , whats not to love?
This time we get a health potion that can be used on the main campaign map and some Rusty plate armor.
The armor is a big upgrade, it's a nice touch that certain types of armor improve the effectiveness of certain weapons.
Before venturing forth we can use our health potion to regain 10% health.
With this stage of the bandit camp cleared and looted of its spoils its time to head through the portal.
As we enter the portal we have to pick one of 4 cards.2 cards hold blessings and 2 hold curses.
I pick lucky number 3...
It works and we receive a blessing that will give us extra coin if we complete a stage without taking damage.
Lets see what danger lies ahead...
The ground under our feet collapses...
We find ourselves in a trap-filled dungeon. The goal here is simply to avoid the traps.
Let's head back up to the next stage.
The next stage is a pumpkin-smashing contest which cost 20 gold to enter.
We have 20 seconds to smash all the pumpkins...
I manage it with 1 second to spare...
The crowd cheer and we get another treasure chest.
This time it's an incendiary cocktail that massively improves our ranged damage.
Onward to the next hexagon...
This area gives us the option to camp...
Might as well get some rest and restore some health.
Nighty night...
The next step of the campaign involves a choice that requires a dice roll to decide the outcome.
We try to read some ancient runes on a sarcophagus...
The dice roll fails and we cant make out the runes.
We open the lid of the sarcophagus...
And awake some sinister skeletons!
This is a good opportunity to try out our incendiary cocktail...it proves very effective and explodes the bones of the skeleton in a manner so satisfying I had to make a gif...
gif by me - I could watch this for hours...so satisfying...:)
The cocktail can even hit multiple targets ...god this game is fun!
gif by me - BOOM! shake the room!
After a couple waves of skeletons, we get a mini-boss skeleton warrior who is not so easily smote with fire...
gif by me - The skeleton king charges through fire and flame!
The skeleton king gives us some loot but I decide the traveler's vest isn't much use and decide to leave it and move on.
The last step before the final boss is a merchant.
We have 91 gold to spend.
I decide the pitchfork's extra reach and damage is worth 25 gold.
The Ice grenade is to tempting to pass on.Im gonna miss my exploding cocktails but I really want to see how effective the ice grenade is so I spend 60 gold on them.
I probably should have got the soldier's helmet and kept the exploding cocktails, the helmet would have increased their damage by 10% and given some extra health.
Ok we are geared up and ready to move to the final boss!
The Black Hood is up to no good!
I love your wolf hat Mr. Hood...lets dance!
The main thing here is to dodge his crossbow bolts.
Kill his wolf minions..
Watch out for his multi-bolt volley...
Sneak behind him while he reloads and chase I'm down with a very sharp pitchfork!
Gif by me.... come back here!
The ice grenades arent as effective as the exploding cocktails. The ice still does good damage but the afterburn of the cocktails would have made this fight much easier and I could have had the extra hitpoints and damage bonus from the Soldiers helmet if I hadn't opted for the ice grenades...ah well lesson learned.
gif by me - Say freeze!
He gets me down to 176 hit points with a bolt just as I throw an ice grenade at him finishing him of. His death results in a most beautiful rainbow corona explosion...marvelous to behold!
gif by me - VICTORY!
At the end of each campaign, we lose the equipment we looted and it gets exchanged for materials that are used to level our skills up.
This is where the RPG side of things comes into play , we get to choose which skills we want to upgrade after each mission.
In the next campaign, we will be fighting the leader of the bandits, Captian Fromm
I'm loving everything about this game, its gameplay is very satisfying and addictive. It has fast become my go-to game of the moment.
Stay tuned for more Knights of Braveland campaigns real soon!
