Hello there, my fellow musicians and music lovers!

Sometimes a cover or version of a song becomes far more popular than the original. This is the case with this one. What we know as "Fly me to the moon" was originally named "In Other Words". This song by Bart Howard was first recorded in 1954 in the wonderful voice of Kaye Ballard. And before it was a staple of jazz, it was a ballad.

It's amazing the number of things you can learn while doing some research for your covers. I also learned that this song was originally written in 3/4 but was then changed to 4/4. And this makes a lot of sense when you listen to any version version that comes post Sinatra. Have you ever wondered why the pauses are where they are? Well, it's because a extra time was added but the melody stayed the same. This explains a lot of why some phrases are carried to another bar or why some feel like the changes in chord should come before.

It's bonkers! But it is also amazing. Music is a language and it evolves in the same way spoken and written languages do!

As for me, this song was also in my list of the ones I wanted to learn to play. Now, I do. Hope you like my version. One day, I'll male one adding more elements on the playing, but I'm still too green for that. However, I liked my cover.

I hope you like it too!

Cover de Fly me to the moon

Lo que conocemos como "Fly me to the moon", tuvo por nombre originalmente "In Other Words".
