Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another Deep Thoughts with Django. That's what I should call this podcast, Deep Thoughts with Jongo. Yeah, hi, so I'm in the middle of some crazy thunderstorms here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I've never seen storms like this in my life. Apparently, there was, like, four tornadoes that touched down around these parts over the past, like, 24 hours. It's just crazy weather here in Canada. I'm going to share this on Snappy, if you guys check it out. I literally saw water almost throw a manhole cover in the air. I'm not joking, you gotta see this. I'll put it on Snappy after I'm done this, after I've done this post. Anyways, that's not really what I wanted to talk to you guys about. I wanted to talk to you guys about Hive, yes, but also... Social media in general. Let me share something with you guys. I have, so I joined Twitter, not X, I joined Twitter in May of 2008. Basically, the first year and a half when it got started, I joined, Twitter made sense to me. I will continue to call it Twitter. I'm not going to call it X, even though I know it's X. I got Twitter right away. There's some social media platforms, especially when Web 2.0 was, like, just starting to bubble. There were some social media platforms made no sense to me. I didn't understand it. Like, you know, Friendster, I didn't understand. Myspace, I didn't understand. I mean, this is dating myself here. But Twitter I got, I got right away. So I jumped into this May 2008. Since then, I've got almost 12,000 followers on Twitter. pretty decent reach. Not so much now, because I kind of took a break, a two-year kind of hiatus from it. And that definitely hurt. But overall, I was an early adopter of Twitter. I believe in it. I love short-form content. I love the community conversations that can take place, that used to take place. Now it just seems to be rants and raves. But... Yeah, so that was one social media platform I understood right away. I got it. It made sense to me. Very similar to the blockchain and hive when I first discovered it. It made sense to me. Tokenize the web. That just, it made sense. I was on board. No problem. I was on board. Now, the problem that I'm going to share here is kind of, it's kind of why we suffer here on chain. I have 12,000 followers on Twitter. I have pretty decent reach. I get pretty much zero traction on my posts. Zero. Like, no engagement. There's a few people here and there that'll like it. but generally nothing. I even upgraded my account. I went with premium over the last month just to see how much reach it would get, especially with 12,000 followers, you would assume that would get more exposure. It didn't. Not at all. And to get any type of monetization on Twitter, you need to basically fight with people, because that's what drives the views. The engage drama is what works on Twitter. Like, cause a ruckus, cause a fight, say something provocative, your views go through the roof. And the views, you could get a million, and you might get a couple bucks. Like, it's, you know, yeah, your reach is there if you cater to the drama, and then even if you do cater to the drama, you might get a couple bucks in your pocket. Now let's flip it. Now we go to Hive. Hive, at current count right now, I have 4,368 followers on Hive. If you're not following me, you should. I'm a great follow. From that, I create blog posts, I create these podcasts, I create short form content, snappy videos, take pictures, you name it. Fourth, so about a quarter, let's say, a quarter of the followers that I have on Twitter I have here. But I get $4 worth of rewards for this post. I get $3 worth of rewards for that post. I get $5 rewards for this post. I get, I'm just scrolling my feed here, 7 comments, 11 comments, 23 comments, 19 comments, 363 likes, 17 comments, 24 comments, I'm just scrolling here. So, big numbers don't always mean big engagement. 12,000 followers on X, barely any engagement, because I don't cater to the algorithm. I think that's what the beautiful thing about Hive is. You don't need to worry about catering to an algorithm. You can just be you. Like, look at my posts. It's usually talking about God. If it's not talking about God, it's talking about the blockchain. not really controversial. I'm not rocking the boat here. And I'm getting great rewards. I'm getting great engagement. The problem, I guess, is someone would say, well, where's the reach? There's no reach. And I guess that kind of is it, right? Like, on the surface, it's like, oh, you know, there's only a couple thousand active people on Hive, you know, we suck. I don't look at it like that. I look at it like here, I can build. followings here. I can engage with people. People engage with me. They like my stuff. I like their stuff. We go back and forth. We build relationships. It's beautiful. It's a small community. It's healthy. You don't need to be something you're not here. You don't need to be a drama king or queen like you do on X or any of these other social media platforms, you know? It's either show some skin or say something provocative. That's what gets views. You don't need to do that here on Hive. And yeah, you know what? Yeah, the reach is a problem, and we need more people, yes, we do need more people. But sometimes I think we need to sit back and see how good it is here. I would much rather take that $10 a month. I was spending on X and take that $10 a month and put it into some hive, power it up. Bring some Fiat into Hive and power it up. That's my thinking, at least. So this is what I'm thinking of as I'm watching this massive thunderstorm go through the city of Winnipeg, watching Manhole covers almost explode. You guys got to check that out. Watch it on snaps. Snappy, I'll upload it here in a bit. But big picture here, big picture. Don't worry so much about the numbers. Worry about what we have here now. Don't worry about the price, worry about what we have now. And remember, with 12,000 followers on X and a premium account, I make absolutely zero. I send a snapout, and I get 30 cents and rewards. Where am I going to spend the bulk of my time going forward? It's right here on the blockchain.
