El Hatillo es el pueblo donde yo vivo, que forma parte de la ciudad capital, Caracas. Se encuentra al sur de la ciudad y, a pesar de ser un pueblo de aspecto colonial, ha tenido, a lo largo de su historia, muchísima actividad relacionada con el jazz. Durante años se celebró acá el Festival Internacional de Jazz de El Hatillo, al cual concurrieron importantes representantes de ese género de diversas partes del mundo.

Aunque en estos tiempos no se celebra el mencionado festival, siempre hay actividades que se relacionan con este género musical. Y por celebrarse el próximo 30 de abril el Día Internacional del Jazz, el organismo cultural del municipio, Vive El Hatillo, organizó un evento que terminó el día de hoy domingo. Un festival de fin de semana dedicado al Jazz y a la cerveza. Es importante destacar que actualmente hay un auge grande de fabricación artesanal de esta bebida, acá en El Hatillo.

Las actividades se desarrollaron durante el día 18, 19, 20 y 21 de abril e incluyó charlas, encuentros, clases magistrales, presentaciones de grupos en locales nocturnos de la zona y conciertos en el Bulevar Sucre.

El Hatillo is the town where I live, which is part of the capital city, Caracas. It is located south of the city and, despite being a town with a colonial look, it has had a lot of jazz-related activity throughout its history. For years, the El Hatillo International Jazz Festival was celebrated here, with important representatives of this genre from different parts of the world attending.

Although the mentioned festival is not currently celebrated, there are always activities related to this musical genre. And because the International Jazz Day is celebrated on April 30th, the cultural organization of the municipality, Vive El Hatillo, organized an event that ended today, Sunday. It was a weekend festival dedicated to Jazz and beer. It is important to highlight that there is currently a big boom in craft beer production here in El Hatillo.

The activities took place on April 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st and included talks, meetings, master classes, performances by groups in local nightclubs, and concerts on Bulevar Sucre.

Tuve el placer de estar presente en el concierto que brindó Biella Da Costa, quien es la más destacada cantante en Venezuela, dedicada a ese género, así como al rock. Se presentó con una banda espectacular que dio fe de profesionalismo. Allí hizo un recorrido por algunos estándares del Jazz, así como composiciones originales y un poco de Jazz latino.

También pude presenciar una actividad, en la que se invitó a las personas a llevar su instrumento, para hacer una explicación didáctica y práctica, la cual estuvo a cargo de Javier Josué Pinto y en la que hubo una nutrida participación infantil.

El cierre musical estuvo a cargo del reconocido percusionista - vibrafonista Alfredo Naranjo, quien además de un par de temas de jazz, presentó unos temas de su nuevo repertorio.

Una actividad que contó con gran aceptación de todas las personas de la zona y que atrajo un número importante de turistas a nuestro pequeño y querido pueblo.

I had the pleasure of attending the concert by Biella Da Costa, who is the most prominent singer in Venezuela dedicated to this genre, as well as rock. She performed with a spectacular band that demonstrated professionalism. She performed some Jazz standards, as well as original compositions and a bit of Latin Jazz.

I also witnessed an activity where people were invited to bring their instruments for a didactic and practical explanation, which was led by Javier Josué Pinto, and there was active participation from children.

The closing performance was by renowned percussionist-vibraphonist Alfredo Naranjo, who, in addition to a couple of jazz pieces, presented some songs from his new repertoire.

This event was well-received by everyone in the area and attracted a significant number of tourists to our small and beloved town.
