HIVE OPEN MIC #199 (ENG/ESP): Brasil/Brazil -"Copacabana (At the Copa)" by Barry Manilow

Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa!

Welcome to Week 199 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for this week is “Brasil” (us English speakers spell it “Brazil”)!

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve decided to alter my Three Tune Tuesday posts to be based around the Hive Open Mic theme of the week, and how I would go about tackling it. I found Brazil to be quite a difficult theme to think up easy songs to cover for, but in the end I suggested:

• “Girl from Ipanema” – the most famous English version is by Frank Sinatra. (Ipanema is a place in Brazil.)
• “Copacabana” by Barry Manilow. (A club called the Copacabana, which is styled after the place by the same name in Brazil).
• “Obvious Child” by Paul Simon (He was accompanied by a Brazilian drum collective called Oludum, and the music video is full of Brazilian sites and culture).

I’ve also just thought of “Samba de Janeiro” by Bellini, which was a pop song when I was a kid.

None of these songs are particularly easy, and I certainly haven’t practised any of them, but let me try “Copacabana” for you! Here is the original version, of a tragic story based in a dance club called the Copacabana, which is styled on the samba and cha-cha Latin flavour of the real Copacabana in Brazil!

Brasil me pareció un tema bastante difícil de encontrar canciones fáciles de cubrir, pero al final sugerí:

• “Girl from Ipanema” – la versión en inglés más famosa es de Frank Sinatra. (Ipanema es un lugar en Brasil).
• “Copacabana” de Barry Manilow. (Un club llamado Copacabana, que lleva el nombre del lugar del mismo nombre en Brasil).
• “Obvious Child” de Paul Simon (estuvo acompañado por un colectivo de tambores brasileños llamado Oludum, y el video musical está lleno de sitios y cultura brasileños).

También acabo de pensar en “Samba de Janeiro” de Bellini, que era una canción pop cuando yo era niño.

Ninguna de estas canciones es particularmente fácil y ciertamente no he practicado ninguna de ellas, ¡pero déjame probar “Copacabana” para ti! Aquí está la versión original de una trágica historia basada en un club de baile llamado Copacabana, que tiene el estilo de samba y cha-cha latino del verdadero Copacabana en Brasil.
