The Singing Voice / La Voz Cantante (ENG/ESP) - Week 61 - "Wonderwall" by Oasis

Hello everybody on Hive and especially the PukuMundo Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from the backseat of my car in Cape Town, South Africa! This is Week 61 of “The Singing Voice” or “La Voz Cantante” challenge!

So, the aim of the game is to play a rock cover, or perhaps a cover of a genre that led to the formation of rock music.

What is the rock song that almost every guitar player learns? “Wonderwall” by Oasis! It might be one of the most played songs in the world, so perhaps it is time for me to give it a whirl!

The funny thing is that there are actually a couple of rather unique tricks that you need to get your head around to play this song nicely.

The one thing is that for the verse and chorus, you change chords in the middle of the strumming pattern! The best way to remember the Down-down-down-up-up-down-up-down-up-down-up strumming pattern is to repeat a little sentence in the same cadence as you learn it… the one I was taught is “I… want to play like Ji-mi Hen-drix and-a I… want to play like Jimi-Hend-drix and-a”! Hahaha! So you change chord on the first Down and the first Up of the pattern… (or the “I” and the “play”… Hahaha!)

Another trick in the verse and chorus is called “peddling”, where my third and fourth fingers stay in the same place one the bottom strings so that those notes ring constantly while the deeper notes reflect the chord changes. Usually, I need alternative tunings to get a similar effect, but “Wonderwall” can do it nicely in normal tuning!

¡Hola a todos en Hive y especialmente a la Comunidad PukuMundo! ¡Mi nombre es Jasper y te escribo (y canto) desde el asiento trasero de mi auto en Ciudad del Cabo, Sudáfrica! ¡Esta es la Semana 61 del desafío “La Voz Cantante” o “La Voz Cantante”!

Entonces, el objetivo del juego es tocar una versión de rock, o tal vez una versión de un género que condujo a la formación de la música rock.

¿Cuál es la canción de rock que casi todos los guitarristas aprenden? ¡"Wonderwall" de Oasis! Puede que sea una de las canciones más tocadas del mundo, ¡así que tal vez sea hora de que le dé un giro!

Lo curioso es que en realidad hay un par de trucos únicos que necesitas para entender bien esta canción.

¡Lo único es que para el verso y el coro, cambias los acordes en medio del patrón de rasgueo! La mejor manera de recordar el patrón de rasgueo Abajo-abajo-abajo-arriba-abajo-arriba-abajo-arriba-abajo-arriba es repetir una pequeña oración con la misma cadencia con la que la aprendes... la que me enseñaron es “Yo… quiero jugar como Jimi-Hend-drix y-a Yo… quiero jugar como Jimi-Hend-drix y-a”! ¡Jajaja! Así que cambias de acorde en el primer Abajo y el primer Arriba del patrón… (o el “I” y el “play”… ¡Jajaja!)

Otro truco en el verso y el estribillo se llama "peddling", donde mi tercer y cuarto dedo permanecen en el mismo lugar en las cuerdas inferiores para que esas notas suenen constantemente mientras que las notas más profundas reflejan los cambios de acordes. Por lo general, necesito afinaciones alternativas para obtener un efecto similar, ¡pero “Wonderwall” puede hacerlo muy bien con una afinación normal!
