Hi Hive friends, today I am happy to show you a recipe, which has a special meaning for me, as it is one of my favorite foods and even more if it is made by my mom. After so long without seeing her I had the opportunity to spend a few days with her and I could not pass up the opportunity to try her wonderful arepas, so she indulged me and today I share it with you.
1 kg de Harina de Trigo |
1 kg of Wheat Flour
|
1 cda de Mantequilla |
1 tablespoon of butter
|
9cda de Azucar |
9 tablespoons of sugar
|
1 pizca de sal |
1 pinch of salt
|
1 cucharadita de bicarbonato de sodio |
1 teaspoon of baking soda
|
2 huevos |
2 eggs
|
1 taza de leche |
1 cup milk
|
In a large enough bowl add the flour, while in a cup dissolve the baking soda and salt with a little water, mix the other ingredients very well and add the preparation of baking soda and liquid milk little by little, as the dough requires it, knead very well until the ingredients are compacted.
Then cover the dough with a cloth and let it rest at room temperature for at least two hours, so that the dough increases in volume and is more workable.
Before starting to make our arepas, we knead a little more, giving the dough a cylindrical shape that allows us to divide our portions in a more equitable way, we take a portion and form a ball with our hands, then take it to the work table, previously floured and begin to shape the arepas, giving small blows with our fists and the palms of our hands, we can also help us with a wooden rolling pin or a glass bottle, until we obtain the desired size and thickness.
We must get the arepas flat, of the same thickness on all sides, so that they cook evenly, once ready, we take them to the budare, previously preheated and let them roast on each side for a few minutes until they are golden brown, it is important that they are cooked over low heat, so they do not burn.
A DISFRUTAR / ENJOY
Once ready, we can eat them warm with the filling of our preference, such as cheese, butter, avocado, stuffed eggs, or simply with a good cup of coffee.
