La felicidad de rescatar textiles/The happiness of rescuing fabrics [Eng/Sp]

We all have hobbies, and I love doing crafts. I like to embroider, knit, paint, model, sew and everything that includes design, creation and manual activity.

It has always been widely commented that handicrafts are definitely therapeutic activities and recommended to relieve stress, direct anxiety and improve concentration. All ages benefit from these aspects.

The truth is, I have been through many of them and although sewing is not where I have more skills, I am not afraid to make a transformation. Even more so when it comes to recycling materials that anyone would have thrown away.

In addition, it is very satisfying when I see the garment restored, with new life and fully functional.

Today I’m going to show you how I changed a sweater, which I didn’t wear, into my favorite garment.

This sweter is long and of a thermal fabric, ideal to use below in this winter city, but I used it very little, because it did not have front closure and I was uncomfortable putting it above my head.

MATERIALS

What would make this sweater an ideal garment, was to place a front closure, so I dedicated myself to look for a closure in disuse, and I found a child’s body that no longer had life, I removed the closure and ready.

STEP BY STEP

I folded the sweater in half and cut it straight across the chest, from neck to waist.

The next step was to sew the closure, from the inside.

This time, I did it by hand because I didn’t have enough free time to sit in front of the sewing machine. so I sewed it by hand, in the moments I was traveling in subway.

I would have to do an additional post, just to tell all the anecdotes that I have gathered, while I do crafts in public transport. But I assure you, it’s a nice topic of conversation to hang out with.

This time, a woman told me that nobody wants to sew anymore. That allowed us to have an entertaining chat during the half hour of our trip.

Going back to the seam, the closure was not the same length of the sweater, it was quite smaller, and a friend gave me the idea to leave a few inches free at the bottom of the sweater, as are usually some, to give the hip slack.

And ready, the sweater became a practical jacket that I use daily, because it is hot, practical and combines with everything.

Every time I look in the mirror, I feel super happy with my "new" jacket and the closure I rescued from certain death.

Todos tenemos algún hobbie, y a mi me encanta hacer manualidades. Me gusta bordar, tejer, pintar, modelar, coser y todo lo que incluya diseño, creación y actividad manual.

Siempre ha sido muy comentado que las artesanías son actividades definitivamente terapéuticas y recomendadas para liberar el stress, encaminar la ansiedad y mejorar la concentración.Todas las edades se benefician de estos aspectos.

La verdad, yo he pasado por muchas de ellas y aunque la costura no es donde tengo más destrezas, no le tengo miedo a la hora de hacer una transformación. Más aún cuando se trata de reciclar materiales que cualquiera habría botado a la basura.

Además, me es muy satisfactorio cuando veo la prenda restaurada, con nueva vida y completamente funcional.

Hoy les voy a mostrar cómo cambié un suéter, que no usaba, en mi prenda preferida.

Este sweter es largo y de una tela térmica, ideal para usar debajo en este invierno citadino, pero lo usaba muy poco, porque no tenía cierre frontal y me incomodaba colocármelo por arriba de la cabeza.

MATERIALES

Lo que convertiría este suéter en una prenda ideal, era colocarle un cierre frontal, así que me dediqué a buscar un cierre en desuso, y encontré un enterito infantil que ya no tenía más vida, le retiré el cierre y listo.

PASO A PASO

Doblé el suéter por la mitad y lo corté en línea recta por el pecho, desde el cuello hasta la cintura.

El siguiente paso fue coser el cierre, desde adentro.

En esta oportunidad, lo hice a mano porque no tenía suficiente tiempo libre disponible como para sentarme frente a la máquina de coser. así que lo cosí a mano, en los ratos que viajaba en subterráneo..

Tendría que hacer un post adicional, solo para contar todas las anécdotas que he reunido, mientras hago manualidades en el transporte público. Pero les aseguro que es un lindo tema de conversación para pasar el rato.

En esta oportunidad, una mujer me comentó que ya nadie quiere coser. Eso nos dio pie para una entretenida charla durante la media hora que duró nuestro viaje.

Volviendo a la costura, el cierre no era del mismo largo del suéter, era bastante más pequeño, y una amiga me dio la idea de dejar unos centímetros libres en la parte inferior del suéter, como suelen ser algunos, para dar la holgura de la cadera.

Y listo, el suéter se convirtió en una práctica chaqueta que uso diariamente, porque es caliente, práctica y combina con todo.

Cada vez que me veo en el espejo, me siento super contenta con mi chaqueta "nueva" y con el cierre que rescaté de una muerte segura.
