A few days ago I made a trip that I had waited all my life since I was a little girl I wanted to know the desert and play in the dunes. This trip was scheduled for when the pandemic of covid-19 started, so it was postponed in time, in December 2020 in my wish list I included to know this part of my country that I longed for, it was a fact that this 2021 I would know it, so the date was set for February and again it was postponed for reasons beyond my control, so the months passed until in September I made it happen and stepped on Falcon.

Hace unos días realicé un viaje que había esperado toda mi vida, desde pequeña quería conocer el desierto y poder jugar en las dunas de arena. Este paseo estaba programado para cuando inició la pandemia del covid-19 por lo que se fue posponiendo en el tiempo, en diciembre del 2020 en mi lista de deseos incluí conocer esta parte de mi país que tanto anhelaba, era un hecho que este 2021 lo conocería, así que la fecha fue fijada para el mes de febrero y otra vez se pospuso por causas externas a mi voluntad así pasaron los meses hasta que en septiembre lo hice realidad y pise Falcón.

This publication covers the review of the San Roman Lighthouse, a construction that deserves its space, it was the first site to know in this trip and the farthest northern point of the country, we left at 11 pm to arrive at dawn and admire the lights of the islands of Curacao and Aruba countries near the Cape, but we did not arrive at the expected time if not much later at 8 am and at that time with the light of day and the glare of the sea is impossible to see these neighboring countries. The trip seemed like an eternity to me, on the Google map it says that from where I live there are approximately 6 hours and it became 9 hours, due to the number of checkpoint on the way that made all the passengers of the bus get off with suitcases and bags and then checked by the national guard.

Esta publicación abarca la reseña del Faro de San Román, una construcción que merece su espacio, era el primer sitio por conocer en este viaje y el punto norte más alejado del país, salimos a las 11 de la noche para poder llegar al amanecer y admirar las luces de las islas de Curazao y Aruba países cercanos al Cabo, pero no llegamos a la hora esperada, si no mucho más tarde a las 8 a.m y a esa hora con la luz del día y el resplandor del mar es imposible ver estos países vecinos. El viaje me pareció una eternidad, en el mapa de Google dice que de donde vivo hay aproximadamente 6 horas y se convirtieron en 9 horas, debido a la cantidad de alcabalas en el trayecto que hacían que todos los pasajeros del bus nos bajáramos con maletas y bolsos y que luego revisaba la guardia nacional.

The only construction that can be admired in the distance is the lighthouse and the most striking thing is the view that can be seen from the top, on each floor, there is a balcony to see the whole landscape at different levels, the breeze is strong and its sound is very enveloping.

La única construcción que se puede admirar en la distancia es el faro y lo más llamativo es la vista que desde arriba se puede observar, en cada piso hay un balcón para ver todo el paisaje en distintos niveles, la brisa es fuerte y su sonido muy envolvente.

Geographical and historical data - Datos geográficos e históricos

The lighthouse of Cabo San Roman is located in the peninsula of Paraguaná is the northernmost point of Venezuela, and from where you can see the lights of Aruba or Curacao at sunrise or sunset.

This place was the first point of land where the Spanish colonizers arrived on August 9, 1499, the day of San Roman and for this reason, it was so named.

El faro de Cabo San Román se encuentra en la península de Paraguaná es el punto más septentrional de Venezuela, y desde donde se puede observar las luces de Aruba o Curazao en el amanecer o atardecer.

Este lugar fue el primer punto de tierra donde llegaron los colonizadores españoles el 9 de agosto de 1499 día de San Román y por este motivo fue nombrado así.

The lighthouses have the purpose of orienting the ships that navigate at night and on some occasions when the fog is dense and the light cannot be visualized some of them emit warning sounds. The lighthouse of Cabo San Roman was inspired by the oldest lighthouse in the world that is located in Coruña, Spain, which is why it is erected in stone.

Los faros tienen el propósito de orientar las embarcaciones que navegan en las noches y en algunas ocasiones cuando la niebla es densa y la luz no puede a ser visualizada algunos emiten sonidos de alerta. El faro del Cabo San Román fue inspirado en el faro más antiguo del mundo que se encuentra en Coruña España por eso está erguido en piedra.

Previously there was a lighthouse of white steel with red and it was rusted and deteriorated due to the humidity and salinity of the environment, that is why it was decided to change its material and build it with concrete and stone. It was remodeled in 2004 by the Venezuelan merchant navy with the collaboration of the Chinese government. It has a lamp with a range of 40 kilometers or 25 miles, is powered by solar energy by 10 panels of 40 watts each, and has a height of 80 meters high divided into 5 floors. Finally, I had this information thanks to a brief conversation with the person in charge of the care and conservation of the lighthouse, whose function is to make sure that everything is in perfect condition.

Anteriormente se encontraba un faro de acero blanco con rojo y estaba oxidado y deteriorado producto de la humedad y salinidad del ambiente por eso se decidió cambiar su material y construirlo a base de concreto y piedra, fue remodelado en el año 2004 por la marina mercante venezolana con la colaboración del gobierno de China. Tiene una lámpara con un alcance de 40 kilómetros o lo que es igual a 25 millas, es alimentada con energía solar por unos 10 paneles de 40 vatios cada uno y tiene una altura de 80 metros de altura dividida en 5 pisos. Para finalizar tuve esta información gracias a una breve conversación con la persona encargada del cuidado y conservación del faro, su función es que todo esté en perfecto estado.

The gentleman expresses that it is solitary work, but very quiet that he likes because it allows him to enjoy nature, the sound of the wind, and a view that few can see.

El señor expresa que es un trabajo solitario, pero muy tranquilo que le gusta porque le permite disfrutar de la naturaleza, del sonido del viento y de una vista que pocos pueden ver.

Ya puedo decir que estuve en el lugar más al norte de Venezuela, con esto finalizo mi primera parada en este viaje de descubrimiento, es increíble como se puede pasar una vida deseando ir a un lugar que no está tan lejos, solo tenemos que tener el firme propósito y hacerlo realidad.
