Today is Ganesh Chathurthi and we all gathered at our society community hall and celebrated the event. Lord Ganesh is the most worshiped deities in the Hindu culture and it is believed that he is the remover of all obstacles and worshiping him brings good luck. He is also known as the god of beginnings, so in every festival or rites and ceremonies, he is worshiped first. He is also considered as the lord of intellect and wisdom, so this is a very important festival for all the kids who are students. Kids keep fasting and offer their prayers and break a coconut in front of the deity - I still remember that old saying - if someone breaks it at one shot, then he is blessed. The tradition of breaking coconut is considered is auspicious in the Hindu culture, and it is believed, Lord Ganesha resembles an elephant so it makes it easier for the Lord to get the food when devotees break it and offer. There is a whole big story behind how the Lord got the elephant head, but he is also known as Lambodara because all the universes of the past, present, and future are present in him. These beliefs are what makes our culture so rich and we pass this on to our kids over generations. Let the lord take away all the obstacles and bring happiness for all of us.
