Today I bring you a waltz from the eastern side of Venezuela, specifically from Cumana, by one of the emblematic composers of my land, undoubtedly a virtuoso who captured his knowledge and inspirations in wonderful melodies that today have transcended in a big way.

The composer whose name I am talking about is Daniel Mayz, he was a mandolin player, composer, fisherman and carpenter. For being an extraordinary and virtuous popular musician, he was known by the nickname of "Golden Feather". This nickname was given to him because of the feather or plectrum with which the mandolin is played, highlighting his very delicate way of playing the mandolin.

He was a disseminator of the musical traditions of Sucre, in terms of instrumental repertoire and playing techniques, he also left an incredible musical legacy expressed in waltzes like Amarilis, Entrada a Cumanacoa and mi Recuerdo, also some joropos like mi pensar and el Mono, and also composed several merengues.

As a mandolinist, I appreciate his musical legacy, because the melodies of his waltzes, have a strong deep sentimental connection and makes me think that he was inspired by many beautiful things of his state, or personal experiences. At the moment I only know two of his compositions, which is a theme called Amarilis and the other one that I come to play today called "Entrada a Cumanacoa".

I hope to have the opportunity to learn more of his incredible compositions, when I do this will be the medium by which I will share it with you. With nothing more to say, I hope that my interpretation on the mandolin is to your liking, best regards.
