Hello again hiver, for today's post I want to show you the creative process in fast painting of my last caricature, it is a small commission of a particular person, a very respected teacher in his field and locality, to whom his course of undergraduate students wanted to award by giving him a plaque with the print of a caricature of him, a very particular detail, and distinguished if you ask me.

Hola de nuevo hiver, para el post de hoy quiero mostrarles el proceso creativo en pintura rápida de mi última caricatura, se trata de una pequeña comisión de una persona particular, un docente muy respetado en su campo y localidad, a quien su curso de estudiantes de grado quisieron galardonar dándole una placa con el estampado de una caricatura suya, un detalle muy particular, y distinguido si me preguntan.

I received these two photographs as a base reference, and I proposed a classic caricature style where the exaggerations are wide and accentuated, because this style seems to fit the person, I am still trying to adapt to the new tool, but I took the opportunity to use the cell phone and the stylus only with the intention of measuring the performance of my work, here are some details of the process.

Recibí estas dos fotografías como referencia base, y plantee un estilo de caricatura clásica donde las exageraciones son amplias y acentuadas, pues este estilo parece encajar con la persona, aún trato de adaptarme a la herramienta nueva, pero aproveche para usar el celular y el stylus solo con la intención de medir el rendimiento de mi obra, por aquí algunos detalles del proceso.

I approached this from the sketch, but allowing the corrections to be spot work only from the beginning, such as the reduction I had to make to the character's complexion, as I felt it didn't go that way. While caricaturing a real person has some flexibility when it comes to being faithful to the details, capturing the most important ones is the real trick to ensure a good result, in this case I not only had to capture them, but also exaggerate those that define both his gestures and overall appearance.

Aborde esto desde el sketch, pero permitiendo que las correcciones sean trabajo de manchas únicamente desde el inicio, como la reducción que tuve que hacer a la complexión del personaje, pues me parecía que no iba por allí. Si bien caricaturizar una persona real tiene cierta flexibilidad a la hora de ser fiel a los detalles, capturar los más importantes es el verdadero truco para asegurar un buen resultado, en este caso no solo debía captúralos, sino también exagera a aquellos que definen tanto su gestualidad como el aspecto en general.

I decided to build everything on a single layer except for the background, but the character was referred to the pictorial, I used a fairly warm color palette following the reference, but still giving some cold spots to define a better contrast but quite subtle.

Decidí construir todo sobre una sola capa a excepción del fondo, pero el personaje se remitió a lo pictórico, use una paleta de colores bastante cálida siguiendo la referencia, pero sin dejar de darle algunos manchones fríos para definir un mejor contraste aunque bastante sutil.

FINISHES ✅ ACABADOS

To close I applied a little of the use of the line but from the pictorial approach and congruent with the stained, that help to give definition and of course land the classic technique of the caricature, an outer outline along with some irregular shapes in the background to leave something of me there of course, this part served me to explore in depth the IBIS PAINT X application which surprised me with its variety of brushes, those abstract shapes in the background were made with these specific brushes that brings the app and that in convination gave that result quite fresh.

Para cerrar aplique un poco del uso de la línea pero desde el enfoque pictórico y congruente con el manchado, que ayuden a darle definición y desde luego aterrizar la técnica clásica de la caricatura, un delineado exterior junto con algunas formas irregulares en el fondo para dejar algo de mi allí claro que si, esta parte me sirvió de exploración a profundidad de la aplicación IBIS PAINT X la cual me sorprendió bastante su variedad de pinceles, esas formas abstractas en el fondo se hicieron con estos pinceles específicos que trae la app y que en convinacion dieron ese resultado bastante fresco.
