What 's up! I hope you are great. In today's video I dared to do something different and show you a little bit of my piano practice. I am not a pianist and I don't pretend to be, but after 4 years without playing this instrument I heard a song that I really liked and I wanted to learn it, so why not share it with the Hive community? With all due respect to my pianist friends, I share with you this little cover, hopefully you like it. Play it and let me know what you think.

    About the song

"Song for my brother" is a piano song by Nam Hye-seung and Park Sang-hee, composed for the Korean drama "Crash Landing On You", a series that tells the story of a South Korean girl who inadvertently ends up in North Korea, and must find a way to return to her country without being discovered by the authorities, but in the process of escaping she falls in love with a North Korean militar who helps her to hide.

I recently saw the series and in it they repeat this song a lot, and I think I ended up loving it so much that I wanted to play it.

In my opinion it is a romantic song but at the same time melancholic, and I really like the way in which the harmony develops, since at the beginning it starts with an optimistic and cheerful sound, it sounds very much like a love song, but as the song progresses the harmony changes and it feels a little sadder, until the end (my favorite part) where it closes with a sad and inconclusive sound, it's a bit discouraging ending, which goes perfect with the drama of the series, since the character that plays this song lives a heartbreaking reality, and it's that situation what leads him to compose this song.

    About my learning process

Since I hadn't learned a song on the piano for about 4 years, obviously it wasn't easy to play again, and since I don't have the piano at home but at the academy where I teach, when I went to work I had to optimize my time with the piano.

Before and after giving drum lessons, I would practice on the piano, sometimes I could spend two hours playing, but other times my fingers would hurt after 30 minutes of continuous practice. Despite this I didn't get frustrated, because I understand that these are things that happen when you start from scratch on an instrument, it takes time for the body to adapt to the movements again, so I didn't put too much pressure on myself and just focused on learning it at my own pace, it took me two and a half weeks to get it complete, and then one more week to play it at the original tempo and record it from beginning to end without mistakes.

To study it, what I did was to divide it into chunks, and practice each one separately in a loop, and as I was able to play them, I put them together according to the order in which they go. I think this saved me some time, since I could fix a section very well before starting the next one, and it allowed me to correct specific mistakes that used to happen to me in specific parts of the song.

    Last words

Playing this song was a process that took me out of my comfort zone, which I am immensely grateful for because it helped me a lot to distract me from the problems of everyday life and helped me focus on something fun, that I enjoy and that I had years without doing, such as playing piano. After this experience I feel more encouraged and willing to play other instruments besides drums, we'll see what comes next.

    Good vibes!✨
