I’ll tell a brief experience, which motivated me to draw this, that although it lacks aesthetic sense keeps a sentimental meaning.
It was a night like any other, bedtime was approaching so I prepared myself for it, since I suffer from insomnia I managed to fall asleep at about 2 am I did not see coming what would come next, beyond a nightmare, in the middle of the dawn I woke up I felt that in my dark room something was lurking, my inner self was aware that it was nothing, but in turn my heart was racing.
I lay waiting for the worst of the news as I sat in the dark in my bed, no prior danger, no accumulated worries, nothing bad anticipated before sleep, suddenly I had woken up with the feeling of being left in nothingness, my hands were sweating and I wanted to scream:
"Why?" I asked myself several times, why were my senses racing, acute shivering sensation in my back. I proceeded to breathe fast like a marathon.
There was no physical ghost to scare me, but in my mind my thoughts screamed words:
“There is nothing...
It's nothing
Why am I being defensive if there's nothing?"
And my inability to calm down tormented me.
It was then that I turned on the lights and my ability to analyze the situation became scarce: "I'm a tiny particle in the middle of a huge chaos, many invisible eyes were looking at me but I can't look, many eyes were ignoring me while I wanted to cry
"What is inside me that won't leave me alone?"
Questions of insecurity filled me, the lump in my throat tightened: I could call out for someone to rescue me, but there was nothing visible to harm me. Then...
My trembling hands wanted to embrace something that couldn't be found,
and the word "Anxiety"
Came like red light to illuminate, so I said to myself:
"stop" and concentrate on breathing, just breathe.....
I spent half an hour trying to meditate when I had never in my life tried it before, I stopped saying "calm down", I accepted any thought that came to me, the nicest and the creepiest ones, I let them cross and the ones that did not want to move I left them where they are...
I didn't judge what came to my mind until I was almost blank.
(I hope you enjoyed the read. I need to clarify that this work isn't intended to romanticize anxiety. I invite you to always consider mental health as a priority, if you present any similar experience I recommend you to consult with professionals and talk about it with close people who serve as support, it is the best way to deal with it. If you have come this far, thank you for your attention ❤️).
