HIVE OPEN MIC WEEK 122|| MWAMIKAZI MARIA(KIRUNDI)||RECORDER,VOICE AND GUITAR COVER
Reflecting on the theme of this week, emotion I started having a sudden nostalgic feeling about a place I travelled to some two years ago.
It is a country in East Africa designated as Burundi. To cut the long story short, I had a very lovely time over there, learning their language and culture. They are famous for their Traditional drums and native dance style.
A picture I took back in 2019 at one of their cultural displays
Very Importantly, I enjoyed their Music, especially songs in their native language because they were always melodious and emotional. Although I did not understand the words, I fell in love with the rhythm and the progression of their songs. But amongst all, one song caught my attention the most and I had to learn the words. It is titled MWAMIKAZI MARIA which I later asked for the meaning and I was told that it means Queen Mary.
So in the light of the theme of emotions, I will present this song to you. I created a slow piano chords in the background, then I used my recorder flute to play the melody of the song before singing the song proper. After that I changed the rythm and played it in a faster mode with my guitar to bring some afro vibe to the song!
Below are the words of the song as much as I can remember
Ur'u mwamikazi Maria,
Urinyina wa abantu,
Wewashimwe na rugira,
Ngutuber umuvyeyi,
Kunda tuguhaye Maria mawe,
Kunda tukuririmbire,
Tuku rate,
Maria Maria!.....
I hope you will like it.
Great thanks and appreciation for your presence and support! You are the best 💯💖💖!
