Harvesting Tumeric

Greetings all garden lovers. I wish everyone an amazing and prosperous 2024 and of course a good harvest year.

Late last year I bought some fresh tumeric seeds which I used for organic soap formulation test. There were some leftovers which I kept and after some weeks I noticed that some of them had started sprouting so I decided to plant them so they don't waste. I remembered then that my dad usually grow tumeric and ginger at a space near our house but since there was none at my own apartment I had to use nylon bags and equally placed them at the frontage of my own apartment.

It was still during the rainy season so there was no need for me to water them because they were placed at a position where they can receive rain water.

Few weeks later I noticed the leaves had started coming out and I was excited and surprised at the same time because I wasn't really expecting them to survive but it seems tumeric has the tendency to grow anywhere so far it has access to the the necessary nutrients needed for growth.

Seeing the tumeric grow so well really made me happy and when the rains seized I began to water them until they were mature and the leaves started changing yellowish brown indicating that it was time for harvest.

So one evening I decided to harvest them and see what I got.

I can say the yields are good because the tumeric seeds I planted were small ones but look at this big fingers they produced. So of they were much bigger I would have gotten more yields.

I may consider giving it another try with much bigger seeds to see how it will go.
For now let me enjoy my fresh home grown tumeric.
