For decades, the kaolin mine near Roßbach in the Saalekreis was the largest mining site for white clay in all of Central Europe. After 200 years, the company's history ended abruptly - today dream landscapes like those from a long-distance travel catalog are hidden here.
The water on the left is emerald green and so clear that the lake bottom can be seen. On the right, however, a rust-red lake glows in the sun: as if filled with blood, the body of water lies between brilliant white banks, just a few meters away from a third splash of color. The water surface here is indigo blue and it extends a few hundred meters to the north, where a cliff rises that is reminiscent of the white chalk cliffs of Rügen.
A landscape like the famous Yellowstone National Park in the US state of Wyoming, where volcanic processes over thousands of years have painted rocks, colored lakes and stamped fairy-tale structures into the surface.
