Dicha actividad se realizó el pasado miércoles 26 de abril, en la Galería de la Casa de la Cultura de Naguanagua, a las 3:00 p. m., con la colaboración de la estudiantina de la escuela Dr. Lisandro Lecuna, quienes interpretaron varias piezas musicales, entre ellas, el «Vals venezolano Pica Pica»; «Pasaje del olvido», de Simón Díaz; y «En el muelle de San Blás», de Maná.

This activity was held last Wednesday, April 26th, at the Gallery of the Naguanagua House of Culture, at 3:00 p.m., with the collaboration of the student body of the Dr. Lisandro Lecuna school, who performed several musical pieces, including the "Venezuelan Waltz Pica Pica"; "Pasaje del olvido" by Simón Díaz; and "En el muelle de San Blás" by Maná.

Antes de dar inicio a la actividad, el director de la Casa de la Cultura, Antonio Díaz, dio un breve discurso sobre el esfuerzo que hacen a diario para promover la cultura mediante exposiciones de obras como las que pueden apreciar en las fotos.

Before starting the activity, the director of the House of Culture, Antonio Díaz, gave a brief speech about the effort they make every day to promote culture through exhibitions of works like those that can be appreciated in the photos.

El profesor, por su parte, explicó que los cuadros presentados estaban realizados con tinta sobre plástico y utilizó fijador para lograr que la tinta no se cayera. La técnica empleada, en palabras del director, es un «puntillismo no-tradicional», lo cual, es admirable por el trabajo que conlleva, sobre todo si tenemos en cuenta la pérdida de visión paulatina que padece actualmente el profesor debido a su edad.

The professor, for his part, explained that the pictures presented were made with ink on plastic and he used fixative to make sure the ink didn't come off. The technique used, in the director's words, is a "non-traditional pointillism", which is admirable for the work it entails, especially if we take into account the gradual loss of vision that the professor is currently suffering due to his age.

Dos meses, es el tiempo aproximado que tardó en realizar algunas de las obras que ven. Entre ellas, me llaman la atención «La manzana», por lo sugerente qué es; «Aroma», por su abstracción; «Mi querida Naguanagua» porque representa la visión que el artista tiene de la ciudad; y «La fe», un cuadro que pintó para su esposa cuando ella estaba enferma.

It took approximately two months to complete some of the works you see. Among them, I'm drawn to "The Apple", for its suggestiveness; "Aroma", for its abstraction; "My Dear Naguanagua", because it represents the artist's vision of the city; and "Faith", a painting he made for his wife when she was ill.

Luego de escuchar sobre esto último, uno de los estudiantes le preguntó si su esposa se había recuperado tras recibir el cuadro como regalo, y el profesor sonrió, tal vez por la inocencia y/o esperanza que escondía la pregunta, y respondió que sí, lo cual, alegró mucho al niño y a sus compañeros.

After hearing about this last one, one of the students asked him if his wife had recovered after receiving the painting as a gift, and the professor smiled, perhaps due to the innocence and/or hope that the question was hiding, and answered that yes, which cheered up the child and his classmates.

Varias de estas obras ya estaban vendidas a un precio relativamente accesible, entre 70$ y 90$. Luego de la exposición, serían entregadas a sus nuevos dueños.

A continuación, les comparto algunas fotos que le tomé al profesor ese día, mientras se daba inicio a la actividad y cuando hablaba con algunos de los presentes y el grupo de niños que hizo muchas preguntas relativas a los cuadros.

Below, I'm sharing some photos I took of the professor that day, as the activity began and when he was talking to some of the attendees and the group of kids who asked many questions about the paintings.

También me gustaría mostrarles el siguiente instrumento llamado «Marimba», que estaba utilizando uno de los profesores de música mientras la estudiantina tocaba. Una caja de resonancia usada en los llanos venezolanos, hecha de madera, cuyas paletas de metal se tocan con gomas de cuero para que el músico no se dañe los dedos. Además, una pequeña batería eléctrica que utilizaron cuando interpretaron el tema «En el muelle de San Blás».

I'd also like to show you the following instrument called a "Marimba," which one of the music teachers was using while the student band was playing. It's a resonating box used in the Venezuelan plains, made of wood, with metal slats that are played with leather straps so the musician doesn't hurt their fingers. Plus, a small electric drum set they used when they performed the song "En el muelle de San Blás."
