This song by Eric Clapton from his 1992 album Rush, is dedicated to his son Conor who suffered a tragic accident in which he sadly lost his life after falling from the 53rd floor window of an apartment in New York City.

Story

Después de aislarse por un tiempo, Clapton comenzó a trabajar nuevamente, escribiendo música para la película Rush (1991). Lidió con el dolor de la muerte de su hijo coescribiendo "Tears in Heaven" para la banda sonora con Will Jennings .

Jennings dijo:

After isolating himself for a time, Clapton began working again, writing music for the film Rush (1991). He dealt with the grief of his son's death by co-writing "Tears in Heaven" for the soundtrack with Will Jennings.

Jennings said:
"Clapton said to me, "I want to write a song about my son." Eric had the first verse of the song written, which, to me, is the whole song, but he wanted me to write the rest of the lines of the verse and the pitch ("Time can knock you down, time can bend your knees... ."), although I told him it was so personal that he should write it all himself. He told me he had admired the work I did with Steve Winwood and in the end there was nothing left to do but do what he asked me to do, despite the sensitivity of the subject matter. This is a song so personal and so sad that it is unique in my songwriting experience.
