Snowy expanses of ancient land

Hello, friends.
After three weeks of frost below -30 degrees Celsius, a thaw arrived on Friday. On Saturday, the thermometer tried to get close to zero; it was only five degrees short.

Having missed flying a drone, I decided to take some photos of the winter landscape using a quadcopter. For my flights and filming, I chose the bank of the Yenisei River.
The water in the river has not yet become covered with ice, this is due to the fact that upstream there is the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric station, which discharges water from the reservoir from a depth of several tens of meters and naturally this water is warmer than at the surface. Wild ducks take advantage of this; some of them do not fly away to warmer places for the winter, but stay here for the winter.

In my opinion, the snow-covered banks and clear water surface in the river look quite interesting. But alas, it was not possible to fly fully; the drone’s batteries were discharged much faster than in the summer, and a warning message about a bad GPS signal often appeared on the monitor screen.

Now I’ll tell you a little about the shooting location. This is the right bank of the Yenisei River, five kilometers upstream from the confluence of the Abakan River. Here the Yenisei is divided into several branches, forming numerous islands.

The coast itself is interesting. People have settled here since ancient times, further into the steppe there are ancient graves, and the surrounding mountains contain thousand-year-old rock paintings - petroglyphs.

Back in the steppe, about five kilometers from the coast, a gas torch has been burning for about thirty years. In the 60s of the last century, geologists found gas here, but the volumes were considered unprofitable and the well was mothballed. About thirty years ago there was a small earthquake, and the well opened up, and lightning or burning grass ignited the gas. So the gas torch burns in the steppe all year round. Local residents have surrounded the fire with stones and have picnics there.
