    English version

Fito is my pet, my companion as some call him, for 12 years now. It was given to me when he was just four months old. It has been the only dog. I have ever had and I have loved every experience with it.

It pains me so much to part with him when I travel and to be honest I miss him more than some humans. When he was less than two years old he had the tick disease, but he managed to recover quite well. Although he gave me a tremendous scare.

Then, for about three years, his eyes were turning white due to cataracts; until today he is completely blind. That's what his vet said on this last visit.

Two years ago, he had a prostate problem and I thought he would not recover. I expected the worst result, but his doctor and my dedication to taking care of him and being very attentive, with the support of some friends, helped him recover and he became quite well. With the pandemic, rather, he became more spoiled, because he thinks that my mission in life is to serve him.

Lately, I have noticed that he has a hard time doing his physiological needs and that he has a bulge that deflates when he manages to pee.

For this reason, I decided to visit the vet to have a clearer diagnosis and know what to do to take care of it. Fito loves to ride in the car, so just the fact of going to the window with his head held high and that air of happiness fills anyone with energy.

the doctor and his assistant greeted him warmly. He was innocent of all the exhaustive reviews that he had to do. His eyes we already knew were wrong. Despite this, Fito manages quite well at home, of course, I do not make any changes so that he does not get disoriented, although sometimes he does, and with my voice or sounds, I guide him.

He then went on to check his prostate and was surprised by another finding. Fito also has a perianal hernia and another in the urinary bladder with retroflection of the urinary bladder. This pathology is not operated on in the town where he lives. That is to say, there are no specialists who do it. We would have to travel for surgery. However, due to his age and the whole picture he has, it is not recommended.

In fact, the doctor noticed something in his heart while he was doing the echo, which he later confirmed by auscultating him, and it is that he has a heart murmur. Which still indicates the delicate situation of my beloved Fito.

I believe that Fito Antonio has started the process of leaving him. Something definitely very hard for me. Meanwhile, I try to organize my time to comply with his treatment. I am aware of his inflammation. I try to walk him once more a day.

He thought he has good energy. He is calmer, he gets more tired. I think he saves that strength for when they come to visit because he loves humans. And he receives them with great joy. Also when he hears the magic word "let's go" which indicates that his walk is coming, it goes quickly, because I think that this relieves his pain, and also he dedicates himself to investigating everything in his path, to mark all the possible territory.

Where I live, Fito is well known, many stop to ask how he is, and some of his dog friends accompany us on walks. And a group of children runs to touch it. He has always been very loved. He has an energy that invites tenderness I don't know. I guess like every pet. He is very struck by the fact that he is blind and how he still takes him for walks, although it seems on many occasions that he takes me for walks.

While the doctor told me all the conditions that my dear Fito had, I was trying to be strong. I'm still trying. It is not a simple situation, but it will be necessary to carry it. And keep going.

From that visit to his vet, I am left with something he told me: Since Fito is blind, he has two superpowers: his sense of smell and his hearing are enhanced. But also not seeing him can panic and in that case, you should talk to him and touch him. And he even taught me how to hug him to calm him down. He also told me to do a kind of game for the repositioning of the urinary bladder and that I should do this before going out for a walk.

Yesterday, I started talking to him. Trying to get his soul to listen to me. Told him that he can leave whenever he wants, that he doesn't stay here suffering for everything he represents to me. That I will be fine and that I will feel happy that he rests. calm.

This is something I will do from time to time, as well as meditate with him. Lie down next to him and hug him, so that he feels all the love I have for him and all the attention I give him. So I stay and focus on those superpowers, which many of his dogs will surely have:

    • His smell and hearing are more powerful. Therefore, he needs more sounds to get his bearings. So I talk to him more.

    • His memory is super powerful. That's why I don't move the furniture at home because the way is well known.

    • But I think the greatest power of his is the encouragement and joy with which he starts the day and all the love he has to give.

In honor of Fito and all the dogs who celebrated his day in many countries on August 26 when @threespeak-es reminded us of our furry friends.
