Sometimes we have difficulty seeing those new tender leaves behind decaying large leaves. We're holding on and nursing decay and sapping precious resources instead of just looking at what the plant truly needs.
It's a bit painful at times to trim back, and cut down, and admit that some loss is necessary.
It reminds me of serious burns.
My husband had his arm burned in a fire. In order for the skin to come back new and proper, they had to debride the wound. It was so painful but all that charred flesh needed to come off in order to make way for the healing. Hanging onto any of those other bits would have just left a mess.
When we "bite the bullet" and clear out the clutter in our lives, and in our gardens - it might be a bit lean... but it ensures that all the focus goes on the good stuff left behind.
Hope you're having a great day so far! Be brave. Trim back if needed!
