Evan who?

Unless you've been living under a rock, pretty much everyone knows that Elon Musk now owns Twitter. Personally, I couldn't care less; it seems to me far too many people have made a big deal out of it for no real valid reason other than maybe no longer being able to silence others for the most insane or obscure reasons. I saw a Toot the other day from an individual who had obviously come from Twitter to attempt to lecture Evan Prodromou.who for many of us, is the father of the Federated service. It reminded me of when we had him on The Dick Turpin Road Show.

Most of us 'originals' on the Fediverse come from the precursor identi.ca a service that was pretty similar to Mastodon and used ActivityStreams (Mastodon uses ActivityPub, which replaced ActivityStream). I can't remember exactly when I joined, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were 2008 when it was first launched.

Sadly, identi.ca ran into financial and operational difficulties; it was towards the end of the service that we interviewed Evan about what went wrong and what he went through: "It felt like I was on a burning bus with everyone shouting at me." said Evan.

Be warned, there is swearing, and the sound quality is poor, but tbh that was one of the fun features of the podcast. The recording is from 2012 and features me (Lots of very loud laughing), Matthew Copperwaite and Evan Prodromou. We still love you man.
