Hello everyone and welcome to Call of the Elder Gods. This is the demo for the game. It is part of the Steam Next Fest, which is a cracking amount of demos that, some awesome, awesome games in that I have played a few already. This is the second game that follows on from Call of the Sea. I haven't actually played that. Motion sickness on. No, we haven't played it. New game. I ran it earlier just to make sure it worked. And then... Convectur Yagna-Yeed. What was that? What is that voice? Okay, that didn't sound very friendly. A dream of phone call and a therapy session. Session? A girl who had strange and disturbing dreams. From the kick go, this is... Oh, I know this place, I've been here before. This is the ancient stone city amidst the jungle. This is beautiful. I'm not gonna lie to you, this looks absolutely stunning. I really like this. Even the ripple in there, that is amazing with the wind. Oh, do you know what, I like this. This is pretty cool. That's pretty. What the, oh, bloody hell, Jesus Christ. Right, sorry about that. Okay, that is a big boy. I'm glad she pointed that out, because I didn't even see that there, Jesus. Have we missed anything else? Unfortunately, this is as fast as I can go. That's dead pretty, that. I'm not a big believer that a game has to have amazing graphics to interest. But this alone is really impressive. Khan Bektur Yagnar Yiv. In other words, find a statuette and save my race. Oh, that seems a bit of an anticlimax. That sounded like a lot more threatening. In English, it's not that impressive. But we'll let them have it, aren't we? Okay, assuming we've got to come up here, it's glowing. So far, this is quite good. Ooh. Uh-oh. Statuette! Here it is. Finally, I have to get it, I have to... I have to... This is the story of Evie Drayton. Quick, quick, before I forget, where did I put my notebook? I have to write everything down. Looking for Answers was part of Evie's observant, nature, and analytical mind. Her recurrent dreams began shortly after a period in 1956, when she'd completely lost consciousness. All right. Thank goodness. Still have a couple hours until Thermodynamics class starts. Reverend Charlton was adamant that I bring this cross to college. He must think Arkham is a den of iniquity and wickedness. Rhythm and blues is definitely my kind of music. So, this is any, like, Lovecrafting game. Uncle Moschow would be a trick or two when I would help him in the motorshop. Tinkering with gadgets always puts me at ease. Which I'm a huge fan of Lovecraft stuff, it's just amazing. Anything to do with Arkham and things like that are great. I love it. I was lucky to be accepted at Miskatonic. It was one of the first universities in Massachusetts to admit non-white students. I couldn't leave my science fiction book in Benoit. It goes from Jules Verne to Ray Bradbury. This scary fellow that haunts me in my dreams is a dimetrodon. He roamed the earth 270 million years ago. And although it may seem like it, he is not a dinosaur. Oh, I thought it was a dinosaur, personally. Beatrice, along with me. is one of the few ladies studying physics at Miscatonic. Julian, Beatrice, Herbie, and I, we're always together. Okay. I've searched every astronomy book at the Miscatonic Library, but none of them contain any reference to this constellation. Schwitzbergen Island and Zvalbard. Apparently, I researched this area of the Arctic... thoroughly during the time I lost consciousness. Okay, that's a random place to pick, isn't it? This photo was taken during my amnesia. I don't remember anything about it. I'm assuming I've got to go for all of this. When I saw this picture, I... Nope, sorry. When I saw this picture, I couldn't believe it. It's the same statuette I always see in my dreams. Everyone back? No, not with... Hmm, okay. That I used to spin this Duke Ellington record over and over when I was a little girl. Uh, draw. The Hydrangea Foundation took care of the insurance payout for Dad's accident. I had scholarships to attend several black colleges in the South, but it was the foundation's money that allowed me to cover the tuition here at Miss Katonic. Wow, that's impressively cheap compared to now. Evie was worried that someone might read it. That's why she kept it locked away under that complicated padlock. Oh, this is cool. You gotta love a good puzzle game, ain't you? Oh, yeah? Oh, there you go. Okay, that was creepy. In games, when you start hearing stuff like that, that's just not normally a good thing, is it? Ever. Boston, that's almost a two-hour train ride from Arkham. I thought... Do you want to talk or not? Yes, yes, of course. I'll be there. 6 p.m., Prospect Road. See you in a couple of hours, Professor. All right, I should get ready. There's a lot of information here about my strange dreams in my... Okay. I'd better go through it again before I leave. I don't want to miss any questions when I talk to the professor. That was a bit aggressive of it. One thing I did notice, I'm sure me age, there is no chord on that telephone. And that annoyed me. I've always been a good student. During my amnesia period, I almost reached excellence. A whole straight A's? Yeah, I wish I could have done that at school. I'd have been quite impressed myself. I must have written about a thousand letters to the archaeology dean and Miscotonic. and I've never received any answer. Oh, something's book is going on. Evey asked herself if she had finished gathering all the information in her room. Let's go! So far, so good, I'm liking it. She would come across another protagonist in this story. Okay, come on then. Hit me. Who we got? So, you have finally decided to talk to that young lady, Professor. Yes. Acknowledging responsibility for our previous mistakes is vital to moving forward. You've taken a crucial step. And listen, there's no need for us to talk, Doctor. The only reason I let you into my house. is because you insisted it was necessary to prescribe my medication. This is also the story of a sad, guilt-ridden, and lonely man. This is the story of my husband, Professor Harry Everhart. Yes, I know well enough that discussing the effectiveness of our therapy sessions with you is futile. But you need to understand that therapy is just a part of the whole treatment. Without it, I can't go and ask whatever you deem necessary, and let's get this over with as soon as possible. Fine. What about your position as dean at Meskotonic University? We talked some time ago about your relationship with work, was somewhat obsessive. I didn't say that. You did. That was a bit off. ... practically live secluded in this very home, and the only thing that drove you to leave it was your job obligation, so how would you define that? Perfectly fine? Academic professional. I do what they pay me for. Teaching, student assessment, and certain logistical duties fall within my responsibilities. Tearing at the Miscatonic Mariners football games does not. And, are you happy with that? With your life now. What kind of question is that? Well, I'm asking it because it sounds like you're subjecting yourself to a kind of self -punishment. I am not, next question. There's another topic you've never wanted to delve into, Professor. Would you now be open to... You're going to do it anyway, so go ahead. Okay. What happened to your wife, Professor? She died at home after a long disease. Harry hated giving details about my death, especially if those details meant talking about a certain expedition, and deaths other than mine. I see. Okay, so she... How do you feel about that, you know? What's my wife got to do with all this? You see, the reason I'm asking professors, because when we began therapy, you mentioned visions, some sort of oily shadows casting themselves on the wall. You mentioned those visions began shortly after, whatever happened to your wife. So, tell me... Do you still see those shadows, Professor? Uh, I don't like lying, let's be honest. Oh, should we lie? No. Not since I started taking the medication at least. Harry had tried everything. Oh, I pressed the wrong button. Not even the medication that helped him sleep could take away those oily shadows, but he kept it to himself. Listen, there is... There is something different. I want to try in today's session. I believe hypnotherapy might just... Don't even think about it. Hypnotism is a scam. Professor, with all due respect, I believe you're a mistaking mesmerism with hypnotism. Even so, if you want me to prescribe... You won't give me my medication unless I submit to your quack experiment, is that it? I'm deeply sorry you see it that way, Professor, but I need you to trust me in this. Go ahead. Wave a pocket watch in my face if that's what you need to do. There's no need for pocket watches, Professor. The sound of a metronome will be more than enough. I need you to relax and free your mind. And think of something pleasant. A fond memory, if you will. Something that took place here in the Everheart Manor. A fond memory? In this place? It wasn't easy for Harry to find a fond memory in the same manner where he had spent an extremely unhappy childhood. Maybe. Maybe? December, 1930. The last Christmas my wife and I ever spent at Everhard Manor, she insisted on coming. Despite my parents never approving of our marriage, but that was the kind of person she was. Hmm, interesting. Tell me more about it, Professor Everholt. Every time I gave her a present, I prepared a little scavenger hunt. She loved it. She loved solving my stupid riddles. That metro name's made me not off. has more than one protagonist, and though I am not one of them, I believe I, Nora Everhart, play a crucial part in it. Can I open my eyes now, Harry? Not yet, we're almost there. Let me open the door and... Now, open your eyes. Oh, that's pretty. Of course, old pal. Now if you want your present, you'll have to earn it. Can I use my journal to write down clues? Well, technically that's against the rules, but I'll turn a blind eye this time. He's so kind. Press tab. Okay, that's helpful, thank you. Ah, right. A new decade. I wonder what the future has in store for us. Okay. Oh, that one's got a cable this time. I feel a bit happy. Oh, seven. Three. Six. Oh, I should have bloody wrote this down, shouldn't I? 2, 5, 1. I'm definitely going to write that down, because I've already forgotten it. 736, 251. So I think that was a number, just in case I need it. I wonder why my darling husband is keeping locked up in here. have to put that brain of yours to work to find it. Ah. Oh, look at your sad little face in this photo. You know me. I've never been the life of the party. Wait, there's something wrong in this memory. This wasn't... Ignore it. Focus on that moment. Your wife. That happy memory. That actually scared me. Hmm, what are you up to now? Play it. Whoa. Oh. Why am I seeing those shadows? Focus, Professor, keep remembering. Make me on edge of here. To remember. How could I forget? Tell me you didn't vandalize a piano just for a scavenger hunt, old pal. Nora, what do you think I am? It's just crayon. This darkness, have a hot man, but my house is not, professor, don't drift off. I don't like it. I feel like it's going to jump out on me, and I don't know if it is. It's making me a bit uncomfortable, and I don't really want to like to do anything. Is anything? Is there anything telling me the shapes? Chiano, square, whatever that's called, squiggle. Um... I wonder... Nope, that. Okay. I'm obviously not cut out. I don't know. Let's have a look. Is it, am I missing something? Apart from the creepy-ass shadows, I'm a bit, like, nerved by him. I swear, even in a painting, your father's stairs and shivers down my spine. You know you're looking more like him every year. Nora, for the love of God, don't even joke about that. Okay. There's gonna be something. I know I'm... It's gonna be right in front of my face, this is the worst part. Not sure. I wonder if it'll be the numbers that were back to front. Could it be? 6. Come on, no. 4, 6, 1, let's try that. Oh, wrong way. Do you remember when we slowed the end of the great... Oh, we know that? Hmm, I feel like we're missing something here. Squiggle, Star Trek, I thought I've already tried that one. Did we play all the other once? Nope. Um, I felt really, really stupid here. I don't know what to do. But yeah, hmm. I need to figure this out, it was annoying me. Sorry, I run button, right, earlier. Right, one second, one minute, one minute, one minute, squirly, triangle and the star, slowly, triangle, star, oh my god, is that it? Oh my god! Harry, I can't believe it! It's that statuette! And it even has a black ooze orb, just what I wanted for Christmas. No, wait, you need a statuette. Don't touch it, Nora! Keep going, Professor, it's important. Where is the statuette now? I'm going to ask you again, Professor Everhart. Ooh, okay, that took quite a big turn, I wasn't expecting that. Most people would have turned away and left, but not Evangeline Drayton. She had been waiting for months to talk with the professor. No way was she letting it slip away. So, she decided to climb over the walls of the Eberhard Manner. Oh wow, so we're just doing some breaking entering now. Fair enough. Okay. That was a, I wasn't expecting, like, any of that to happen, that was, that was quite good, I enjoyed that. I feel like breaking someone's house, that wasn't really the first thing we should do. Why is she so happy just to break in? Oh, these paintings look awesome. Why it takes her job, that's scare me. Wow, look at the size of this library. It's almost as big as Mischatonics. Actually, it wasn't even a third the size of Mischatonics library. But young people can be terribly impressionable at times. Evie's last remarkable trait was her extraordinary memory. A gift I was never blessed with. So, allow me, the narrator of this tale, to be the one taking notes, for the sake of clarity, of course. This is pretty damn cool. This has got a good thing this skull is fake. This has got a good field to it. I'm liking it. I'm liking this a lot. And the artwork's beautiful, absolutely stunning. What on earth happened here? I wish this fireplace was lit. It's bone-chilling cold in here. You came and left the bloody window open. This must be the professor's office. Hmm, someone lit the fireplace, but this room is still cold. The key, I wonder what this opens. Thank you. Nora and Harry, the professor was married. Oh, we're getting to juicy bits now. Despite his tone, this Bowen fella doesn't seem particularly friendly. Professor had another appointment today with a therapist. Dr. Frog in the Fruit. is the most utterly stupid thing I've ever come across. Lovecrafting horror is just a big enjoyment of mine. It really is. Cofu, things like that. I've played quite a few Lovecrafting games. Board games as well, love them. I've read the books by Lovecraft. It's all just, the stories are great. Weird but great. Oh, gee, oh, okay. Right, I don't think this is like a horror game, but, oh, I'd be on edge that, oh, got shivers. I was like, what the hell is someone staring at me? Oh, right, okay. I'm gonna calm down now, sorry about that, I, um, yeah, squealed a bit. Ugh, don't close the door on me. Oh, I got shivers going through me now. I've been in the wrong way. I would have probably gone through there in the dark. Oh, I've gone the wrong way? I must have. I just usually go for the first doors that are in front of me, basically. Okay. What's this? Looks like the professor's father was involved in politics. Um... Oh, I'm not like this. It's scary me. Isn't this one with a Christmas tree? Looks like a memorial of some kind? Dedicated to a woman. That, the misses? Yep. Under different circumstances, I might have found this song beautiful. But at the moment it sends a shiver down my spine. You're telling me, love, honestly. I'm proper nervous now. So I shouldn't have gone here first, I should have gone the other way. Ooh! Seeing that little head poking round, it's just weird. Oh my God, we can finally run. Oh, this is better. Got a well? Nope, no one's down the well? That's a dead end. Probably wasn't the worst, or like rather the best idea to be travelling in this where is it? Wow, this is grim. Here, the staircase is slippery. Okay. I really feel like we shouldn't be just like going into someone's house. Hidden room? Okay. This base-like thing with a face engraved on it can be rotated. What kind of madhouse does the professor live in? Oh. This is a very nice garden, though. I am quite jealous of this. Evey found it hard to believe that the recluse living in the abandoned mansion had ever loved anyone, but he had. Truly and profoundly. Oh, that's quite sad, that. Eavey certainly had a keen eye for beauty. Should I make that face that one? Maybe, maybe not. I am not sure. There are even fakes in it? Yeah. That face in it? Yeah. That face is dead freaking creepy though, isn't it? That is making me uncomfortable. Look at the tree? What does the tree do? Um... I don't know. I genuinely do not know what I'm doing. Angry face, happy face. Hmm. I'm assuming there is other bars, vase things. Ah, there is. Alright. Okay. Oh, what happened there is? Okay. I'm a little bit confused. I feel like there's something that I'm missing. What am I missing? Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I know, I know, I'm sure the tree... That's the Trinity thing on it. Pick it up? Hmm. That says it's fine. I say it's fine. I forgot what I face it was now. The upset one, but not quite upset. Not crying. I didn't even see that. Am I going too quick? Right, that's the grumpy one. That one. That one. at the tree? I'm really not sure. The worst part is, when you watch it back, you can know and find out what the answers are. Ah, I did miss her face. My face, jars, jug, vase, vows, whatever you want to call them. Gotta be something that I'm missing. Oh, oh no. What is it that I'm missing? Gotta be something, surely. Let me talk on in case I'm missing stuff. Don't we have to point into the green house? Hum, hum, hum. Can't be something. Look at the bags? Oh, I don't know. Oh, I think it's made a sound then. Which one of you? Sleepy? The moon. So do you want it dark? Look away from the light, maybe? Oh, the phone? What've done? Ooh! The Craying... and the other one? That's weird. I didn't realize that was a lock. What would we move the crying one to? Hmm, are you gonna be looking at the wife? Nope. I thought it makes sense to be looking at the tree. Personally, but... What would it look at her? Would that be better? Such a graceful and elegant woman? Evie certainly had a keen eye for beauty. Because its mark is on the tree, so it makes sense for it to be looking at the tree. But I could be wrong. Alright, I'm going to try it again. Probably be at the bench, because of the flowers. I'm not sure, I'm really not sure. I really like this, though, this is proper work in my brain. No. Hmm, I'm wondering if you'd be the flowers then. What do we think? Is there anything? I see it easy this, one bit. I'm dead, like, I'm quite impressive it though. There's going to be something, it's going to be right in front of my eyes as well, that's what's going to really annoy me. Then it was a crying one, weren't it? Hmm... Oh wait, what happens if I'm reading this the wrong way? I could be full on... Wrong way here. Oh, oh, you're kidding me! Looks like there's a symbol carved into that bucket. Well, that's just frustrating. I'm wondering if those locks are unlocked the other way. Right, let's have a look. Oh, you're kidding me. I'm working on the wrong ones here, there's a bloody symbol up there. Well, that took me way, way longer than it was necessary, really. What an idiot! Is there a symbol round here? Do you know, I'm actually proper annoyed in myself there, because I've been working on the wrong thing? Right, let's see if this one opens another one. Oh, I'm working from the wrong bloody…
