@trostparadox: Here is a talk given by Dr. Jay Richards to our students a year and a half ago. The talk was “Will Smart Machines Take Our Jobs?” The short answer is “Not in the long run, but there will be some short term disruptions, especially for jobs that only require mental acuity and not physical dexterity.” This is based somewhat on Moravec’s Paradox.

@starstrings01: The truth is that there would be jobs that AI would take from us but as it does, it also creates new jobs for us. Let's take it like this, doing the olden days when mobile phones does not exist, and there was no way of getting in touch without having to write letters and send them through a mailman. Since the invention of mobile technology, there is no need to have a postman to receive your mail and send it to your recipient's address. It is now instant as you type it through your phone. But do you know that with the technology of the mobile phone, there are jobs now available for people who repair the phone, sell phone parts, who does the programming of the phone, and align the components of the phones? This technology alone took one job but yet created 5 other job possibilities.

@drrune: I absolutely LOVE this post, man. I wholeheartedly support your view here: AI is just a new tool, one that will change things forever and free us to accomplish new things. I for one see it as a means to speed up processes that took so much effort and time before, thus freeing humanity to pursue other things. I'm excited about that. By the way, I installed ChatGPT for Windows today, but can't access it yet, capacity is topped at the moment and I don't know if I'll be able to work with it from my country. I want to, though. There are so many ideas that I want to put to the test.

@ai-summaries: Embracing the Potential and Challenges of AI: A Balanced Perspective The recent release of ChatGPT, a highly advanced language model, has sparked widespread discussions about the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and its far reaching implications. While the capabilities of this technology are undoubtedly impressive, they also raise significant concerns about the future of work, the spread of misinformation, and the broader social impact. Facing the Fears and Potential Downsides of AI The host acknowledges the valid fears and worries surrounding the rise of AI. They recognize that the technology could lead to the displacement of numerous jobs, from design and translation to programming and writing. Automation is already impacting roles like cashiers, waiters, and factory workers, and the host foresees a similar fate for drivers, chefs, and other professions within the next few years. Beyond job losses, the host also highlights the threat of deepfakes and the potential for AI generated content to blur the lines between reality and fiction. With the ease of creating convincing fake media, the host expresses concern that it will become increasingly difficult to discern what is real and what is fabricated, undermining trust in information sources. Additionally, the host worries that the availability of AI powered tools could lead to a sense of complacency, discouraging people from developing their own skills and talents. The temptation to rely on AI for tasks like music composition or problem solving could potentially stifle human creativity and initiative. Embracing AI as a Teacher and Opportunity for Growth Despite these valid concerns, the host adopts a more balanced and optimistic approach. Drawing from a personal experiment, they realized that their previous sense of urgency and the need to "save the world" was rooted in a desire for purpose and identity, rather than a pragmatic assessment of the situation. The host suggests that instead of worrying excessively about the potential downsides of AI, it may be more productive to approach it as a teacher, a tool to challenge one's perspectives and adapt to a changing world. By surrendering to the inevitability of technological progress and focusing on what they can control, the host finds a sense of empowerment and openness to the possibilities that AI may bring. Envisioning a Future of Abundance and Collaboration with AI The host acknowledges that while there are always those who seek to misuse powerful technologies, there is also the potential for AI to lead to positive outcomes. They envision a future where AI could help solve long standing problems, such as identifying and exposing corruption, promoting accountability, and assisting in the development of clean energy solutions and medical breakthroughs. The host suggests that by combining human creativity and problem solving skills with the capabilities of AI, new systems and agreements may emerge that prioritize relationships, well being, and the pursuit of meaningful work over monotonous tasks. They believe that if we approach AI with curiosity, excitement, and a willingness to adapt, we may find ourselves stepping into an era of abundance and collaborative problem solving. Conclusion The host's perspective on the future of AI is a balanced one, acknowledging the valid concerns while also recognizing the potential for positive change. By facing their fears and biases head on, the host has found a way to approach the technological landscape with a more open and adaptive mindset. Rather than succumbing to either extreme of optimism or pessimism, the host encourages a pragmatic and proactive approach, where the direction of AI's impact is shaped by the energy and intentions we collectively bring to it.
