@agmoore: Hello @macchiata, How to be at peace with ourselves and our place in the world? I am so much older than you and have found only one consistently effective remedy for self doubt, for feeling 'invisible' and unappreciated. I stop thinking about myself. I do something for someone else or something else. This is like instant medicine. I get an immediate charge from helping. I try to do it without being acknowledged. Sometimes it's a cat, or a dog that I help. The most important part is to look outward, away from myself. When you bought the cactus, that was a great dose of medicine for you . 😇 Even here on Hive, I look around sometimes and find someone who has a post that earned a few cents. If the post has any value at all, I upvote it and reblog it. Usually, one or more of my followers will support that post, at least minimally. It's such a tiny thing to do, but when I do that I'm not thinking about myself :) You've chosen a great beginning don't worry about what others think of you. A thoughtful, sincere post and I'm sure many of us will recognize bits of ourselves in your words.

@jenthoughts: There are really times in our life that we felt we are invisible to many people but yes don't focus to those many people who never noticed you but focus to those few people or even one person who see your worth.

@coolmidwestguy: Thanks for the sound bit. If we do something nice or generous we do it because we want to not because we have to. Only two should judge our actions, ourselves and God. I think everyone wants that pat on the back. Its the action that matters not how we get praised or complimented for it. I will say though the one receiving should at least give or show thanks. It's necessary for ourselves to not get caught waiting or expecting a gracious outcome from the receiver. I find myself when it's ignored or not appreciated I may temporarily feel invisible or my efforts weren't worthy enough. I've learned that it has to be treated like oh well or tell myself there's someone else I should give effort to. It really is about how we ultimately feel about what we do for others. We should feel good for our time spent, our efforts, the resources spent, sacrifices made and others. Those who don't show gratitude to us than good riddance. We just can't let it become a road stopper for us to continue on with good deeds. There will always be people like this but on the other side there are those that give us their thanks.
