@jacobtothe: People talk about "the patriarchy" as if men have some kind of automatic societal privilege. Not so. I think the majority of men feel expendable. Here are a few points, some personal, most seen expressed online by other men. Politicians want war? Men get conscripted, or at least expected to volunteer, to go kill other men and die for the sake of national honor. The senseless bloodshed continues while bigwigs dawdle and debate and feel self important. Boss wants a project completed? Set your life aside and work overtime, because other people need you more than you need yourself. Maybe you get a pizza party as a bonus if it goes well! Did the relationship not work out? Alimony and child support. You're the man, so you pay or lose your car, your home, or even your freedom. The courts don't really care whose fault it was or why the split happened. Don't have a six figure income, aren't six feet tall, and have six pack abs? You're a failure. Somehow all of these are your fault. Do you have a hobby? It needs to be abandoned at the whim of your partner. And yes, men are treated as disposable in the dating scene. Rejection is the norm.
