@bozz: That sucks, I am sorry to hear that, but it sounds like you are making the best decision for your family right now. Maybe one day things will fall into place for you.

@lisamgentile1961: So, when the government offered to pay for all these people to learn how to drive trucks they had to know that the companies required people to have experience. How do the companies get away with not paying people? That's just screwed up. How much would it cost for you to carry your own insurance? Probably stupid expensive like self employed health insurance. I can totally understand why you're taking a hiatus from trucking, @jongolson.

@tropicvibes: The old catch 22! The experienced drivers are at work, new hires need experience. Funny how that works in so many industries. When I was a kid I delivered newspapers for 6 to 8 months without getting paid. Not cool!

@rafzat: I think it is normal to be fed up of your job at some point in time but later, you may pick up interest again Follow your will though

@captainbob: Time to move to the islands! You know the location and I hear the chicken is incredible ;)

@jfang003: It sucks to hear that you got laid off. I guess it makes sense since they want to cut expenses when they don't have much business. I guess trucking is tough during the holiday season.

@islandboi: It's unfortunate that you've faced so many barriers. I hope you get a break soon. On another note have you explored jobs in the web3 space? I was looking myself and there's alot of vacancies as community managers, sales, marketing jobs..... for web3 companies. This is something I'd rather do than the industry that I currently work in. Here's the link I tried Google jobs is great as well as it pulls jobs from across the www Give them a try. I think some companies woud value your experience, content and following. Then start your own trucking company afterwards😁

@atma.love: If you come to England i can probably get you a job with a good trucking company, pays about £1,000 per week

@djbravo: There are some decisions that when a person makes, a person has problems, but later, after the passage of time, these decisions change a person's life a lot and benefit him a lot.

@ai-summaries: Summary: In this episode, Jon G. Olson shares his experiences and challenges in the trucking industry, particularly focusing on his recent decision to put his career as a truck driver on hiatus. He discusses his initial passion for driving, the opportunities and challenges he faced in gaining experience, and the setbacks that led him to focus entirely on his involvement with cryptocurrency and blockchain projects. Detailed Analysis: Jon G. Olson begins the episode by explaining his hiatus from trucking, a decision stemming from a series of experiences that highlighted both the exhilaration of driving and the systemic issues within the trucking industry. Jon narrates how he became involved in the field, largely due to his love for driving and an enticing offer from the Government of Alberta, which paid for his trucking school and license as part of a scheme to encourage people into the industry. Despite his enthusiasm, Jon encountered significant challenges in his trucking career. He describes his first job, which seemed ideal initially, but ended in dismay as he worked for three and a half months without receiving any compensation. This job, though unpaid, gave him some experience, which is crucial in the industry yet paradoxically hard to accumulate because of companies' reluctance to hire inexperienced drivers due to insurance costs. Jon further shares his experience with another company that laid off workers based on the seasonality of work in the oil fields, demonstrating the instability and unpredictability of trucking jobs. Despite applying to numerous positions, the constant rejection due to lack of experience led him to reassess his commitment to a career that seemed to offer little return on the investment of his time and effort. Highlighting a broader disillusionment with the industry, Jon expresses his frustration with systemic issues such as companies refusing to invest in new drivers, irregular job stability, and the financial implications of not being paid for work done. These challenges, coupled with his passion for cryptocurrency, convinced him to shift his focus entirely away from trucking and devote his time to his interests in blockchain technology. Towards the end of the episode, Jon articulates a reflective outlook on his journey, recognizing the value of the experience and the commercial driver's license (CDL) he earned, yet deciding to prioritize his energy and time towards his passion for cryptocurrency and blockchain projects. This decision to "invest" rather than "spend" his time indicates a conscious shift towards pursuits that are more aligned with his interests and career aspirations. Jon concludes by putting his trucking adventures on pause, open to revisiting it in the future but for now, fully committed to his work in the crypto space.
