Ego Trip [Podcast]

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to a brand new podcast. Guys, if I would share the GPS locations of where I am right now, you wouldn't believe it. I'm in a field, in the middle of a field, in central Saskatchewan, Canada, basically surrounded by mosquitoes and a whole lot of mud. If you go back to the post I made yesterday about the crazy weather. this part of the country has been having. It's insane, guys. I mean, the water, it hasn't stopped raining in this part of Canada for months. It's just, like, just floods everywhere, washed out roads. It's just, it's just crazy, crazy, crazy stuff. But I'm loving. being out here. This is something I love doing. It's part of my job, but even if it wasn't part of my job, this is something that I look forward to each and every year. And it's part of my church. The church actually does this, that I'm a member of. And I've mentioned it before. I'm a member of the Seventh Day of Venice Church. And... It's a lot of fun. We do these things as a church family every year during the summer, multiple camps, and I'm in Saskatchewan right now, so having fun, having a blast. Anyways, not really what I want to talk to you guys about, just kind of framing where I am while I'm doing this recording. Again, very comfortable, though, I'm in my truck, in the middle of the field, mind you, but... What I want to talk to you guys about is I'm a member of this ministry. I'm not a member, I'm just taking part in it, let's say, because I'm not, you know, running it or anything. It's a ministry that's actually not part of my church, but it's a ministry of fellow truck drivers. And I met this guy who runs this chapel in one of the truck stops here in Western Canada, and we've been... meeting as a group here for quite some time, months now. And it's just, it's such a blessing. I mean, I get to hang out with these guys. We all get to share our faith together. We strengthen each other, pray for each other. It truly is an amazing group of guys. And if you know anything about trucking, I mean, think about it. You are by yourself, in a truck, away from your family, on the road for days, if not weeks on end. It's a very, very lonely job, very lonely. And I truly believe if you do not have a relationship with God, that road is even extra lonelier. So this is a ministry I believe in. I think that this is very important. Truckers are almost maligned in society. I just, I'm a supporter of it. I think it's fantastic. And so we meet every week, and we do Bible studies and stuff. Now, the majority of the guys that are in this trucking Bible study are not from my church, because the ministry actually as a whole is not, it doesn't have anything to do with my church. So a lot of the beliefs and doctrinal beliefs that I have, won't always align with what these guys believe. And I've been very respectful, and I just, you know, I don't rock the boat. I don't try to stir crazy stirring of drama or anything like that. I listen to what, and, you know, I'm listening. It's teaching me to be much more patient in my Christian walk. And I think that's important because, um, I caught myself today. and I don't know if it was pride, I don't know if it was ego, I don't know what it was, but I caught myself today, and I want to hash this out because I don't want it to happen again. But there's a caveat to it, and I'll explain. So, like I said, a lot of these guys' doctrine doesn't align with mine. And the majority of time, when they start talking about stuff, I don't necessarily believe, I just, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't say anything. And I don't know, is that a good thing or a bad thing? I don't know. But tonight they mentioned something, and I don't know what it was, if it was ego, if it was pride, I, I rebuked it, lovingly. It wasn't like, I'm holier than now. I said, well, let's just open the Bible and see what that says. And one of the doctrines, there was a gentleman that was taking part, and he said, you know, I met this, and he was just talking, he's like, I met this Christian the other day, and he said he didn't eat pork. And I thought that was weird. And then a couple other guys chimed in, and like, yeah, that's Acts 10, yeah, you know, you can eat whatever, and this and that. And so, the Adventist in me, I don't, again, I don't know if it was pride, I don't know if it was ego. I was like, no, no, Acts 10's got nothing to do with food. Now, if you know the story of Acts 10, this is where Peter has a dream, and... God tells him in the dream, rise and eat. And he sees all of these, rise, Peter, kill, and eat, all these different animals, clean and unclean animals. And Peter's like, not so Lord, I've never eaten anything clean or unclean. And God responds, you can't call anything clean or unclean that I have deemed. So, at first glance, this is what a lot of people like to throw around. They throw that doctor around, like, well, look, you know, God's saying everything's clean. But you've got to read the context. This is, it's a vision, and then the vision is extended. explained later in the chapter. What God was showing Peter, because this was a call for him to go to Cornelius, the Centurian, to get him a Gentile and grafted into the family of God. This was Peter who never dealt with Gentiles. God showing Peter that he can't call a man clean or unclean. It had nothing to do with food. If you read the context of that chapter, it was all about Peter going to basically baptize a Gentile family. And Peter had never done that. He'd never been around Gentiles, for that matter. So... I chimed in, like, you know, and again, I don't think it was mean, I don't think it was mean-spirited, but I caught myself, and it struck the guys, and I don't know, I don't know if that's going to be an issue going forward, I hope not, I hope we can prayerfully study it, because it's, now this is the thing, I don't think it's salvational. I don't think whether you eat meat or not eat meat is salvational at all. I think that salvation is through grace alone, faith in Christ, that's where salvation is found. But this is just a doctrinal belief I hold. And, listen, before that, even, I never ate, I didn't really eat pork my entire life. I was never really a pork person. People were like, you don't like bacon? I'm like, no, I couldn't stand it. It was disgusting. It's just, I never really ate it. But then when I became Adventist and I did studies, it's like, no, like the... You know, there's nowhere in the Bible that says, hey, go, go and eat everything now, you know? Like, I mean, look at the reaction Peter gave to God. He's like, not so Lord, I've never eaten anything clean. So this is after Jesus had been resurrected. He's still not eating pork. So this is why it's just, it's a troubling topic for me, but again, non-salvational. The big issue for me was, Did I get too cocky? Was that pride? Was that me saying, look at my boasting? And that's what I want to self-check. And I think that's God working in me. I truly believe that's him saying, you know, okay, you believe this, but maybe other people don't. Maybe that's a good Bible study, but don't approach it like you know more than them. And I think that's what we got to do as Christians. Get humble. Um, just be humble. You know, we don't know it all. And maybe, maybe this is a teaching lesson. Maybe this guy can explain to me why he believes what he believes. You know, it's, we just, we can't be too cocky where we think we know it all, because every day, God will show us new stuff. And I pray, I pray that he shows me new stuff over the next week and a half while I'm sitting in a field in a bunch of mud surrounded by mosquitoes.
