A good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another podcast slash blog post slash me thinking out loud while parked on the side of a highway in Saskatchewan, Canada, and we are about to get hit with a three-day winter storm in late April. Canada. It's an adventure. Anyway, so, what I wanted to talk to you guys today is concerning, let me, let me, let me frame it like this. So I think that snaps, threads, waves, all of the short form content on Hive is where the biggest potential we have to draw outside people to this blockchain. For whatever reason, over the years, the powers to be have been fighting against short-form content, and that has hurt us. That has hurt us big time. But people seem to be coming around to it, which is a very, very good thing. This is a good thing. Everything that snappy is building, what threads is built in the past, what waves is building, all of this stuff is very good. It's a good thing to have short-form content. Because I'm such a raving fanboy of this stuff, I try to upvote a ton of stuff. Like, when people are talking on Snappy, I try to upvote them, engage with them. I want to show people that they're valued and their content matters. Like, that has been a big... sticking point for me over the years on Hive, I truly believe that when you make people feel valued here, they stick around. Not only do they stick around, but they become raving fans of this community. Instead, we've alienated people. We've made people feel like criminals. We've made just an awful, awful, awful example. to the blockchain community. This should be a shining beacon in the crypto world. Instead, it's rarely even thought of. And that's our own fault. I mean, we can't blame the markets. We can only blame the markets so much. Every now and again has got to be, hey, we claim we're Web 3, but we still act like a Web 2 place. You know, like, let's re-evaluate what we're doing here. And I think that, again, short-form content is the way forward. This is what matters in this day and age. I think this is the type of stuff people consume. And that was, you know, someone told me this years ago. There was a person on the blockchain that said this, and it stuck with me forever. And they said, we need more content consumers on this blockchain than we have content creators. And it's always been the other way around here. We've always had tons of content creators. Not a ton of consumers. Where do you consume your content? Usually it's TikTok or X or Facebook or Instagram or YouTube. That's where you're consuming content. You might not create there, but you consume there. Well, Hive is kind of flipped. We content create here all the time. Not a ton of consuming. Again, this is why things like snappy... and waves and threads are so important because this is easy access to consuming content, which brings me to the problem. One of the bigger problems we have here is that there's bots everywhere. And on top of the bots, now you got these, and I know for better or for worse, there's a lot of the hive police that have been battling this over the years, and people, try to combat it and while, you know, may not be a perfect solution, they do try to fight this abuse, but they set up these content farming. community, like just a bunch of accounts and they just farm rewards. And they get really, really good at it because they seem to be legit accounts, but they're not. And then they start, you know, commenting here and there and they start making, you can see these accounts a mile away. Just spend any amount of time on snappy or threads or anything. And you'll see, you'll see these accounts. And... This is the problem I have, because I want to upvote and let content creators know that I'm consuming their content, and I value their content. And I do that through comments and upvotes, and other ways, too. The problem I have now is that sometimes I can't keep up with what's a bot account. and what's a legit account? Like, what's a legit new person to this blockchain that deserves the support, deserves the recognition, and I want to reward them for that? But I sometimes I hold back because I don't know if this is a bot account. Like, what's the answer? I'm posing this to you guys. Like, how would you combat this? Would there be some type of, like, time? stamp you'd give them, you know, before you'd start upvoting it, like, you know, a bunch of comments on your content before you say, hey, this is a legit person. Because the bots are getting good, they really are, they are getting good, and they're farming rewards, and they're offering absolutely zero value to this blockchain at all. Nothing. And I think that the value is the people. So I want to reward people and engage with people, but who are people on the chain? Like, this is, this is this problem. Everyone's so in love with AI and all these bots and everything. They haven't stopped and thought about it for a big picture here, like, you know, who's real? Who's a real person? How can I make sure that I'm rewarding and engaging with real people? So I'd love to hear how you guys handle this. Is this a big issue? Is it me just thinking too deeply into this? But what do you guys think? What do you guys think we should do to make sure that these accounts are rewarded and people feel valued? while not rewarding and giving rewards to the wrong accounts. @hatdogsensei: I think if the recognition and rewards are felt by the new creators they will know they have value on the platform
@mes: I think Snapie et al need a reporting / community notes flagging system like on X. If enough people flag an account, it will get labeled as a Bot. I don't mind bots as long as I know they are bots, because they still require resource credits to create and operate, which still provides a bit of value to Hive! replied to 7:32 on 3speak.tv

@videoaddiction: I think it is important that we establish clear mechanisms to differentiate between genuine creators and bots, ensuring that rewards are allocated fairly.
@gatet: I understand your perspective, but I don't share it. I don't see what's wrong with bots; they do amazing things, sometimes much more amazing than people. We all use automation in our daily lives to improve them. Soon you won't be driving that truck; you'll simply be reading a wonderful book while you travel. Coding is advancing rapidly, and as with other human endeavors, we must adapt and use the tools ethically.
