@jza: Interesting, because I agree fully with you. I just message my dad about NotebookLM from Google. This tool has change the way I consume content, I have a lot of books on PDF formats and I have been using NotebookLM to generate podcasts from PDF, and books have been a way to consume such content. I am a big podcast consumer so I really enjoyed 'hearing' those books as audiobook. Enjoying my books on audiobook is actually quite more important for me. I don't agree is a conspiracy theory, I think is more regular for people to interact and listen to conversations than reading it. A lot of people even reading things are usually forgotten while conversations somehow are easier to remember. Of course this has it's exceptions but I think in general people enjoy hearing stories than reading them. This is why we have Church and the gospel is read out loud, because most people don't like to read. Another reason I don't think is a conspiracy is that we are reading more now, than any other time in history. Is only a short format, usually messages, notifications, signs and or tweets. Yeah TikTok is growing, but that doesn't mean people can't coupe with Twitter because is text. I would rather say, that long format text is the one that is being summarized. I could also point out the same with writing, is hard to write a diary, is hard to write our thoughts even, but with comments we are blazing fast replying and getting into arguments online. There is no way we are even close to long format writing like a short novel or a book and have to hold the same thoughts for weeks, months and keep the mood of the writing the same regardless of the way our day went. Is definitely a hard to master art.
@jza: I think the conversation went out from reading vs listening to 'vintagephilia'. Books sucks, they are bulky, heavy and hard to move. We had this same conversation with CDs, BlueRays on any genre, videogames, movies, music albums. I think we romanticize old tech and that's fine. But is not the same issue. And I love that is rather digital than analog. As for the risk of changing it, that's why blockchain, and digital signatures (like checksum) to have integration of content.
