Defensive Apologetics [Podcast]

Hello, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another fun -filled podcast here of Jongo's thoughts. Again, this is like a broken record here, but I'm not sure what to call this thing. Bible books and blockchain, Jongo's thoughts, I don't know, I don't know, we're just running with it. I just enjoy the opportunity to... chat with you guys about what's on my mind, and I appreciate everyone listening in. So, kind of had a little bit of a revelation the past couple of days. Now, I'm a Bible-believing Christian. I believe scripture from Genesis to Revelation. I believe Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I believe He came to Earth. died for our sins and was resurrected on the third day. This is the staple, let's say, of the Christian faith. Now, obviously, there's a lot more to it, but in a nutshell, that's what I believe. And some of the new, let's say, interests of mine within my Christian experience has been apologetics. And apologetics to me comes from 1st Peter 315. And it says, sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks us you, asketh you, a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear. So you're supposed to be ready to give someone an answer. And that's what Apologetics is. And I've got a few books that I've read on Apologetics. I've purchased a few more that I plan on reading in the next couple of weeks and months here. It's just a really important subject for me because I truly do believe in these days that it will become... illegal maybe, let's say, to have printed versions of the Bible. I think that we need to put this stuff in our heart, remember the promises of God, and so on and so forth. So apologetics, again, has really captured my attention recently. So with that being said, I've been... watching a whole bunch of YouTube videos with some of the bigger names in Christian apologetics. I've been, you know, following some of these guys that make a lot of videos that challenge people or people challenge them, and they can defend their faith very well. Something, though, that's a little concerning to me, and this is what I wanted to talk to you guys about, is the approach that people seem to have in apologetics. Instead of being defensive, a lot of these people that are in this kind of branch of Christendom seem to be going on the offense. And you see people that are in the Christian circles that are attacking different faiths. They attack certain parts of Christianity and say that they're cults. They attack Islam. They attack Hinduism. They attack everything that doesn't align with their view. of the Bible. Now, let me put this out here first and foremost. I believe the way the truth and the life that Jesus said was him is the only way to salvation. I believe in Christianity. I believe in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. So... If you are of another faith, I respectfully disagree with you that you have truth. I truly, I believe in my heart of hearts and soul of souls that that... Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. And everywhere you see the, you know, the truth, the definition of truth within the Bible, it always points to God. And so for me, again, and this is, this is why I believe in 1st Peter 315, that we need to be ready to give an answer to what we believe in hope and, you know, the reason for our hope with meekness and fear. But... I don't believe it should be an offensive thing. I don't believe in attacking other people's faith. If I agree with it or not, that's, look, my, this is my job description as a Christian, is to live like Jesus did. My, my job as a follower of Christ is to watch his example. He called sin by its right name, for sure. But if you noticed all of the stories, He, anytime he was challenged, he never went and challenged people. People always challenged him. He was on the defense a lot, but because of his defense, it was a strong offense. I know that that sounds a little weird, but this is what I believe, that we are to be an example. That will be the greatest testimony for Christians. It's not going to be beaten someone over the head saying, oh, the Islam is false, and, oh, Jehovah's Witnesses a cult, and, like, that's not going to attract people to Jesus. That won't. That will... that will get people defensive. It will get them offended. And yeah, we know that that's kind of what Jesus said, that he came to bring, you know, almost like parents against their kids, and because his truth is going to be, like, a sword, it's going to cut people because it's going to convict them. But we don't need to be, like, think of Ephesion 6, where Paul breaks down the armor of God. The armor of God is meant to defend. The start of the verses talks about the wily darts of the devil. Like, Satan is attacking you, attacking you, attacking you. It's not, we're not meant to be going out and fighting people. We're meant to be the example, to let your light so shine. So this is my biggest issue with apologetics now is that we've stopped going on the defense. for our faith, and now we've gone on this offense. It's, it's almost like, it's almost like we think that, that God can't handle his own battles or something, like, oh, we gotta defend him, and we gotta, we gotta, we gotta, we gotta go on the offense for team God. That, that's, we, God doesn't need us, he wants us, but he doesn't need us. So, I think this is, this is, this is, it's a pride thing, an ego thing, like, I want to be right, everyone else is wrong. And again, this is, again, this is me going. going back is I believe Christians have truth. Now, obviously, you know, what's a Christian today? Like, I mean, there's so many denominations and whatnot. I don't believe the Catholic Church is the right church. I don't believe, you know, Calvinism is the right way to look at Scripture. There's a lot of stuff within Christianism I don't agree with, but... I will never attack someone. I might question things, but I'm not going to attack people. And I see this online in apologetics all the time. Attacking Catholics, attacking Jehovah's Witness. attacking Islam, even attacking my faith, which is Seventh Day at Venice, I mean, we get lumped in with the cult brand all the time. I don't, I think that's very narrow-minded to call, to call anyone, you know, I just, I have a problem, I really have a problem with the offensive attacks that these new apologetics. people have within this faith, and we're supposed to be like Jesus. We're supposed to call sin by its right name. We're supposed to shine a light to the world. We're supposed to be the examples so that when people see us, they don't see us, they see Christ. That's, to me, apologetics. That, to me, is given an answer to every man that asks you the reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear. What do you guys think? Do you think apologetics, is an offensive thing, a defensive thing? Do you need a little bit of both? How do you think about how Christians, in general, handle this?
