I went on PubMed, as it had been a couple of years since I had done a meta-analysis looking at the science on it. So I'll describe that to you here. On PubMed, you can find over 700 scientific papers referencing epimedium and two clinical trials in the past five years. I'll summarize some of the more recent, interesting findings. A recent animal study suggested a synergy between epimidium and metformin in decreasing mitochondrial autophagy. Icarin, the active ingredient in epimedium, had a beneficial effect on the heart health of diabetic rats in a recent Chinese animal study. It's an immune hack. There was a recent paper that suggested that it helps to fortify the immune system from damage done by the all-too-common toxin benzene. Chinese researchers in 2019 found that iCarotin, the active ingredient in epimedium, promotes tumor T-cell infiltration and induces anti-tumor immunity in mice. American and Chinese researchers collaborated on a 2018 paper, the effect of ICARN on immunity and its potential application, which describes in-depth its wide array of positive effects on the immune system. This is the bone weakening condition that causes many elderly to suffer from frequent injuries. I'll quote from that study. Levels of epimedium metabolites observed in this study were consistent with levels demonstrated to have anti-ostioporotic effects in cellular and animal studies. And finally, a Vietnamese study found that it reduces bone loss. So I will, again, doubly recommend horny goatweed from Lost Empire herbs. As I said, what makes them really stand out in my mind is that they do really high, high standard quality assurance testing on their products. So you know that you're actually getting epimidium, you know that you're actually getting a pure herb.
