In 1923, he founded the Nigerian National Democratic Party. Becoming an important figure in the development of organized politics in colonial Nigeria. But McCauley's story was not completely heroic. He was outspoken and confrontational, and he had political enemies. His newspaper campaigns could become personal, while his politics was strongly connected to the political struggles of Lagos. So rather than seeing him as a perfect hero, perhaps we should see him as a complicated human being with courage, ambitions, flaws, and controversies. Later in life, Macaulay, work with the younger generation of nationalists, including Namdi Ezekieli, through the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons.
