Hey everyone, Callan here. It's just me a quick video showing you the ditch that we dug here, which is going to irrigate this entire field here. We basically spent the whole day digging this thing out. We did have a tractor. Makes you think if you didn't have tractors back in the day, it'd be freaking crazy. Out in the hot sun, without a wizard hat, it's pretty brutal. So anyways, you can see the water filled in here. and it's coming from that direction, so I'll take you back that way. So we're going to do this reverse direction. You can see basically this whole pit fills in, and it gets just high enough so that it overflows and goes down these rows. So the people who made this farm, they basically laid it out perfectly. We got a transit out here, which is basically an old-fashioned way. You know how to use lasers to tell whether something's level. This thing just uses a little scope that you level out, and then you take a little measuring stick out there. Anyways, this thing basically flows, it lays slightly down this way, which is perfect, and slightly down as it goes out. So the back corner is the lowest point, which is exactly what we want, so that saves us a huge amount of work. Dug all this out. So he did the track drain. And I did the cleaning up, so I did all the shoveling. And we turned off the water at this point, so it's basically just soaking into the ground here. This is a, basically a road, right? So we wanted to keep this, basically something that people could drive over. So there is a pipe that we've laid down and covered it. And the pipe ends right there, and then it just goes all down. all the way up to the source, which I'll show you. Okay, that's where we were. We dug out all these trees, I forgot to mention that, so you see that tree there, that's an elm tree, and they were basically lining this whole thing. There's maybe not lining the whole thing, but there was probably seven or eight fairly big trees. We were both out here with chainsaws, cutting them, and then you dug them out with the tractor. That's where the water would come from. And all we do, to turn it on, it's just turn this thing, and turn it back, and you can see there it's flowing. So anyways, we basically did that all in one day, really half a day's work. The tractor, like I said, goes a long way. There was already kind of a ditch here, but it was kind of off center, and so we basically just redugged the whole thing. First we put up the outhouse, took us about two and a half days, and then this got this done in a day. And I mentioned I could probably get my winter shelter up in two days, but I'm not saying that's what I'm going to try and do, just to be clear. Probably going to take my time. I don't think we're in a hurry. Like I said, it was a pretty hot day today, and it's supposed to be hot for a little while, so I'd say, I mean, really, I'm used to sleeping outside at zero degrees Fahrenheit with no heat source all winter long. you know, I'm not really worried about it. We just have, we'd have to get the whole dog before the ground gets hard. So anyways, I don't really think that that's going to be a problem, but I'll keep you guys informed. @jacobtothe: Good camouflage means blending with one's surroundings. Levis and a flannel shirt, or khakis and a polo, are essential for the gray man in urban and suburban environments. I don't plan to blend into Wall Street, so no monkey suits for me! Nice work on the ditch, BTW. That would suck to do entirely by hand.
