When it receives the sun's radiation, the dirty water inside the container begins to heat up, and part of it turns into vapour. That vapour rises until it touches the transparent cover, where it cools down and forms small droplets. Since the lid is tilted, the dried down to the lower channel and fall into the collection container. Meanwhile, the salt, mud and most impurities remain at the bottom.
