A warm greeting to everyone in the #Music community. Today I share with you my interpretation of the trumpet of "Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars)", a song by Antônio Carlos Jobim, one of the great Brazilian composers of all time. The song was released in 1960 on the album "The Girl From Ipanema" and became a bossa nova classic. The lyrics are poetic and evoke the beauty of the city of Rio de Janeiro, especially Christ the Redeemer at the top of Corcovado. It also speaks of the composer's saudade and nostalgia for his homeland. I have had the opportunity to listen to versions of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, João Gilberto, and Astrud Gilberto. This piece of music is in the key of D flat minor, has a slow tempo, syncopated with a ternary rhythm (3/4). The melody has beauty in its simplicity, and elegance, in short and repetitive phrases. Its harmony is rich and divinely complex, where I can highlight the dissonant chords and chromaticism. You can notice the influence of jazz, samba, and Brazilian popular music.

Throughout history, there have been numerous cases in which popular opinion has been wrong, or has supported ideas or actions that were not correct. Cases come to mind such as the persecution that Galileo Galilei suffered for defending the heliocentric theory, which placed the Sun at the center of the solar system and not the Earth. Nowadays, many people do wrong things thinking they are right. The same thing happens in popular music, it does not always equate to quality or political correctness, or at least it does not pass the filter of social and even religious aspects. In today's world, social media dominates the space of what is popular. Everything that enjoys millions of views, likes, and comments is accepted by the public, even if it is controversial. Music is a victim of these biases, the quality of the content may be less important than attracting attention. I believe that it is important to cultivate critical and selective listening, valuing musical diversity, and looking for works that provide us with something more than simple passing entertainment.

Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars)

    [Intro: Astrud Gilberto]
    Quiet nights of quiet stars
    Quiet chords from my guitar
Floating on the silence that surrounds us
    Quiet thoughts and quiet dreams
    Quiet walks by quiet streams
And a window that looks out on Corcovado
    Oh, how lovely

    [Verso 1: João Gilberto]
    Um cantinho, um violão
    Esse amor, uma canção
Pra fazer feliz a quem 'ce ama
    Muita calma pra pensar
    E ter tempo pra sonhar
    Da janela vê-se o Corcovado
    O Redentor, que lindo!

    [Verso 2: João Gilberto]
    Quero a vida sempre assim
    Com você perto de mim
Até o apagar da velha chama
    E eu que era triste
    Descrente desse mundo
    Ao encontrar você eu conheci
O que é felicidade, meu amor
    [Saxophone Solo]

    [Piano Solo]

    [Verso 2: João Gilberto]
    Quero a vida sempre assim
    Com você perto de mim
Até o apagar da velha chama
    E eu que era triste
    Descrente desse mundo
    Ao encontrar você eu conheci
O que é felicidade, meu amor
