Hello, Hive Open Mic friends! We have already reached week 141 of this wonderful event that brings together musicians on the Hive blockchain. For this edition, the chosen theme is Winter, and although here in the tropics we don't have the 4 seasons, we do have the celebrations on the eve of Christmas.

On this occasion, I want to present a cover of a beautiful parranda on Venezuelan Cuatro and voice. The song is called Alúmbrame el Zaguán (Light up the Hallway). This song was composed by Hugo Blanco and is best remembered for being performed by the Venezuelan folk group Un Solo Pueblo as part of the album of the same name released in 1994.

For those who may not know the term Zaguán, since it is not widely used, it is a space located next to the entrance of houses, especially old ones, similar to a hallway. The song alludes to the fact that at Christmas time the zaguán is usually lit so that the parranderos and aguinalderos who are visiting can sing from there.

¡Hola, amigos de Hive Open Mic! Ya hemos llegado a la semana 141 de este maravilloso evento que reúne a los músicos en la blockchain de Hive. Para esta edición, la temática escogida es Invierno, y aunque aquí en el trópico no tenemos las 4 estaciones, si tenemos las celebraciones en víspera de la Navidad.

En esta ocasión, quiero presentarles un cover de una bonita parranda en voz y Cuatro venezolano. La canción lleva por nombre Alúmbrame el Zaguán. Este tema fue compuesto por Hugo Blanco y es mejor recordada por ser interpretada por la agrupación folclórica venezolana Un Solo Pueblo como parte del álbum del mismo nombre lanzado en el año 1994.

Para los que quizás no conozcan el término, ya que no es muy usado, un Zaguán es un espacio ubicado junto a la entrada de las casas, especialmente antiguas, parecido a un pasillo. La canción hace alusión a que en la época de Navidad se suele alumbrar el zaguán para que los parranderos y aguinalderos que están de visita puedan cantar desde allí.
